Background / History

Novia was originally a mercenary mage from a Type-Moon world. After recovering memories of a past life, he realized he had transmigrated into an earlier era within a hybridized world containing elements of several Type-Moon settings. His “Golden Finger” lets him enter historical events, accomplish legendary deeds, and gain power from them. 5

Seeking survival and influence, Novia traveled through the Roman Empire to spread his Christian doctrine. His teachings centered on salvation, Christ’s atonement, original sin, sacraments, the end times, and universal care; he also organized donations of grain for ordinary people. 6 7 He entered Rome in 48 AD and began shaping imperial and religious affairs. 6 8

Novia gained authority in Rome while remaining involved with magecraft. In Alexandria, he discovered the submerged Alexandria Library, forced Shiyali into a temporary expedition contract, and defeated the lingering Divine Body of Osiris with her support. The Atlas Institute subsequently granted him access to Trismegistus Hermes. 10 11 12

In Britain, Novia investigated the corpse of the Dragon of Albion. He had Shiyali refine Albion’s head into a spear, then persuaded the weapon’s newly awakened consciousness to accept him as its wielder. 15 19 20 21 He later employed the spear and Roman mage forces during the suppression of Doro Bar Kochba’s rebellion in Judea. 22 23 24

Following Claudius’s death and Nero’s accession, Novia convened an ecumenical council, renamed the Christian institution the Holy Church, established Easter, and became its Pope. 29 30 His influence ultimately united the Church roughly three centuries ahead of schedule. 1

After a long absence described as a “slumber,” Novia awakened in Bucharest in 2014. He entered a subspecies Holy Grail War, reunited with Shion and Melusine, and defeated Wolfgang Faust’s Artificial Dragon before Melusine killed Wolfgang. 40 43 44 45
