Chapter 13: Translucent Goes Missing
Over the next few days, Li Wei remained extremely busy, his main goal being to spend time with Starlight—he was simply too eager to get his hands on her superpower. At the same time, Ashley had arranged several team-up missions for them, and the public response was excellent. Everyone loved seeing a handsome man and a beautiful woman working together, which also caused their relationship to heat up rapidly.
Today, Li Wei decided to strike while the iron was hot and invite Starlight out again. He didn't even need to come up with an excuse. Unsurprisingly, Starlight agreed without hesitation.
After several days of contact, the two had grown quite familiar with each other. Once they had eaten and drunk their fill, Li Wei began chatting with her about the gossip surrounding various superheroes. He had taken the time to look into the more than two hundred superheroes currently employed by Vought International, as well as the younger generation at Godolkin University. He did a preliminary screening among them, trying to see which ones might be suitable for him to copy.
The results left him deeply disappointed. First of all, most of these people had basic physical enhancements, and a considerable number of superheroes had gained negative side effects. Growing eight fingers, having horns on their heads, sporting tails from their rear ends—all of these existed. For example, there was a woman with the alias She-Beast, who truly lived up to her name. Her skin was a purplish-blue, her body hair as thick as a black bear's, she stood 2.3 meters tall, weighed 300 kilograms, and especially enjoyed being on top. The unlucky men she had crippled or killed by sitting on them—using her butt—could no longer be counted on fingers and toes, and among them were several third-rate superheroes who hadn't believed the warnings. Although her abilities were outstanding, possessing Super Strength and a super-tough physique, unless absolutely necessary, Li Wei had no desire to drive such a big rig. This wasn't just a question of fuel consumption anymore—this was a matter of draining essence, draining blood, draining life!
Then there was Web-Spinner, who could barely be considered a knockoff version of Marvel's Spider-Man. The difference was that he shot his webs from his anus. One could imagine how useful that ability would be in combat. Naturally, he had never gained Vought's favor either. Although Vought had done plenty of illegal and immoral things for money and didn't care much about face, Web-Spinner's superpower still made them too embarrassed to talk about it.
There was even an Asian named Jordan Lee, who—or rather, he or she—could switch gender at will and adjust their superpowers accordingly. When male, he was nearly indestructible. When female, she possessed extraordinary agility and could unleash energy blasts with her bare hands. If you only looked at the abilities, she/he was quite impressive and currently ranked among the top at Godolkin University. But Li Wei wasn't sure whether copying that ability would bring the negative side effects along with it—that would be even more terrifying than castrating himself.
And this was after Vought had secretly screened them. Those who were truly too ugly never even got the chance to appear alive in public. Secondly, aside from basic physical enhancements, their superpowers weren't necessarily all suited for combat. Many could be completely replaced by modern technology. Their advantage might only lie in being living humans—more intelligent and much more flexible. So after a series of screenings, Li Wei was astonished to discover that the people truly suitable for him, who might allow his strength to grow to some extent, numbered only a few dozen.
The one thing worth celebrating was that several third-rate superheroes had hovering or flight abilities, and because they only had that one power, they generally weren't doing well. Given Li Wei's current status, seducing them shouldn't be too difficult. But none of these matters were urgent; the focus right now was still Starlight.
Meanwhile, during his investigations, Li Wei had also uncovered quite a few little secrets about these superheroes, which he could share with Starlight as gossip. Starlight, for her part, mainly complained to Li Wei about the Seven, focusing her fire on The Deep, who had a grudge against her, followed by A-Train and Black Noir. She also mentioned that she suspected Queen Maeve might have a drinking problem and might even enjoy group activities, because yesterday she noticed a few twisted hairs in the folds of Maeve's skirt that were hard to spot, clearly belonging to different men—their colors were all distinct.
Li Wei thought to himself, This is nothing. There's so much you don't know yet. Queen Maeve has her own little secrets too. As for Homelander, he still acted like a saint, with no bad habits whatsoever, and Starlight believed that he and Maeve might be the only two in the team who truly wanted to live up to the name of heroes. Li Wei blinked, momentarily unsure what to say, so he decided to keep his mouth shut. This little girl still didn't know how vicious this world could be. At least so far, Homelander had done an excellent job of pretending.
He changed the subject. "What about Translucent?"
At the mention of that name, Starlight showed obvious disgust. On her first day entering Vought Tower, Maeve had warned her that that pervert would strip naked and use his invisibility to peep from corners in the restroom. "Tch, that guy's disappeared somewhere. There was a hospital charity mission today that was supposed to be his, but A-Train went instead. Ashley said there's a team patrol mission tomorrow that was supposed to be him and The Deep together, but now Black Noir is replacing him."
Li Wei couldn't help raising an eyebrow. So, Translucent had really gone missing? He wondered if his own encouragement had worked, or if Hughie had been tricked by Butcher into going along with the plan. Hughie had wanted to take advantage of signing the compensation agreement with A-Train to plant a bug in Vought, but Translucent had traced it back and showed up at his door. Then, after a fierce struggle, Butcher and Hughie had used blood and an electric shock to take Translucent down. It probably wouldn't be long before he was completely dead, and his body discovered. Translucent's ability was only to temporarily transform his skin into a carbon-based superlative material; splashing any colored liquid on him would make him visible. Most of his body was indeed as hard as diamond, but his internal organs were still soft—a butt bomb would work very well. As for that kind of ability, Li Wei truly wasn't tempted. Starlight's defense wasn't necessarily inferior to Translucent's. And Translucent had to be naked to be invisible—that was too low-class and too recognizable. If he obtained it and used it, he'd probably be caught by Vought immediately, locked in a dark room, and used as a lab rat. But regardless, after Lamplighter retired, the Seven were about to have an opening.
And if he remembered correctly, in the original plot, Starlight was supposed to partner with The Deep instead of Translucent, but now it had been swapped to Black Noir.
It looked like Ashley and Madelyn behind her really wanted to push the CP between him and Starlight.
So, at this critical moment, would Vought want him to step up?
Better not. If he had to hang around Vought headquarters with Starlight all day, how would he find time to play with other girls?
"By the way, I heard A-Train ran over and killed someone. How was that handled later?"
Starlight sighed. "He already reached a settlement with the family, but that few tens of thousands of dollars can't buy back a life."
That settled it. Now he could be completely sure.
"Alright, Li Wei, let's drop that topic. I stumbled across a pet shop today, and their cat can actually do backflips. Would you like to come see it with me?"
Hmm? Looking at Starlight's flushed face and eyes practically brimming with moisture, how could Li Wei not understand—the cat was a pretext; what she really wanted to see was his cock, right?
He immediately laughed. "Sure, I like small animals too. Let's go check it out!"
After eating Firecracker's plump, juicy abalone several times in a row, today he'd switch it up and go for something lighter!
