Background / History

Homelander was a laboratory-made Vought superhuman. His genetic origins trace to Soldier Boy and Stormfront, making Soldier Boy his biological father and Stormfront his biological mother. Unlike most Compound V subjects, his son Ryan was born naturally with powers. 3 33

Madelyn Stillwell acted as a maternal figure by nursing him and maintaining a carefully managed relationship with him. Her attention later shifted toward her biological child, which Homelander resented intensely. 9

By age ten, Homelander could already fly at supersonic speed. He eventually became Vought's premier asset and the leader of The Seven, operating under an invincible public image built through Vought promotion. 38 54

Personality

Homelander presents himself publicly as a polished, patriotic gentleman, but his behavior away from cameras is markedly crueler and less restrained. Li Wei observes that his usual smiling persona differs sharply from his demeanor when acting without an audience. 38

He is possessive, jealous, and highly sensitive to perceived disrespect. His jealousy toward Maeve led him to threaten people around her, including her former girlfriend Irina; Maeve feared that even Vought employees could be killed merely for showing her attention. 72

Despite his volatility, Homelander is not merely impulsive. After Translucent's body was recovered in a zinc container, he correctly deduced that the killers had anticipated his X-ray vision and were buying time before confronting him. 17 He also recognizes threats to his authority quickly, identifying Butcher's revenge motive after reviewing surveillance footage. 34

Yali's Flame Skull form bound and weakened Homelander with flaming chains, creating the opening Li Wei's group needed.
