Before leaving his family, Lin Miao tells Lin Sheng to seek Qi Ning at Fine Rain Tower in Prefecture City if he encounters trouble he cannot resolve, instructing him to mention Lin Miao's name. 53

Qi Ning first meets Lin Sheng at Fine Rain Tower after he seeks her out for information on the Phantom Demon Beast. She confirms her Dark Star affiliation and quickly recognizes his cultivation talent. 126

Under the codename Thousand Faces, Qi Ning advises Lin Sheng against dividing his focus among incompatible martial arts. After identifying his Ape Fetus Technique and Three Corpses Soul Severing Palm through a physical examination, she recommends that he join the Seven Forms Sect rather than pursue the major Linjiang factions that had rejected him. She also writes the Concealment Art for him, allowing him to mask his Blood Essence fluctuations. 126

When Shi Gu, a sixth-level Bone Transformation martial artist, threatens Lin Sheng in Wanhua City, Qi Ning answers his summons and kills Shi Gu with overwhelming ease. 164

Qi Ning later rescues Lin Sheng from a Divine Form ambush in the Congyun Mountain Range. After examining him, she identifies his drastically changed potential as a rare dragon bloodline and classifies him as a peak-grade Ancestor Awakener, while warning that repeatedly awakening such power would heavily burden his body. 238 239

She offers to take him to Dark Star headquarters, where his talent might attract a Dark Star Emissary willing to teach him. When he declines because he prefers freedom, she accepts his decision and tells him to contact Yellow Dog if he needs assistance. 239

Qi Ning later sends Lan Man to Luoshui County to protect Lin Sheng against a likely Divine Form response from the Prefectural Office. 259

In Tiannan Prefecture, she works with Dark Star agents to investigate the Beast Taming Army and Gongsun Yuanzhou. To secure Myriad Spirits Sect Master Wan Jun's cooperation, she reveals that his daughter Wan Shuang is being held by Gongsun Yuanzhou. 273

Qi Ning joins Wan Jun, Lan Man, Black Eagle, and others in an operation against Gongsun Yuanzhou. Though she withstands his initial attack, his revealed Divine Form Seventh Transformation cultivation forces her back and confirms that the group cannot defeat him directly. 283 284

During the operation, Lin Sheng warns her that Golden Leopard is an Imperial Court spy and that their mission is a trap. When Gongsun Yuanzhou activates the Ice Ghost Great Array, Qi Ning cuts an escape opening through its barrier after Lin Sheng's golden flames weaken it, then pulls him through the breach. In the ensuing battle, she wounds Gongsun Yuanzhou's neck and later stabs his skull while Lin Sheng attacks him. 283 284

Afterward, Qi Ning freezes a regenerating mass of black slime associated with Gongsun Yuanzhou's transformation. She regrets not retaining a sample for headquarters to study after Lin Sheng burns it away, but he warns her that keeping it could expose them to a dangerous backlash. 286

While Lin Sheng cultivates at Water Dragon Mountain, Qi Ning receives intelligence that the Myriad Spirits Sect's people have disappeared. Suspecting Gongsun Yuanzhou's involvement, she instructs Lan Man to notify Yellow Dog and the others so that they can depart the following day. 289

During a later encounter with Gongsun Yuanzhou's tentacles, Qi Ning attempts to lead the Dark Star group out while Lin Sheng draws the enemy away. She is subsequently freed from Xiang Kong's restraint by Divine Lord Li. 292 296

Xiang Kong's subordinate Lu Chuan recognizes her connection to Luo Yin and intends to use her captivity to draw him out. Lin Sheng's Advancement in Dark Star

Recognizing Lin Sheng's extraordinary growth, Qi Ning seeks a suitable master for him within Dark Star and promises to elevate his organizational status. Her efforts result in Lin Sheng receiving the identity and resources of a Blazing Star Emissary. 271 276

She had previously considered teaching him herself, but his bloodline and physique were incompatible with her cultivation method. After learning that he could threaten Divine Form martial artists before turning eighteen, she instead seeks a strength-oriented Dark Star Emissary whose teachings could develop his potential. She also warns him against revealing his strength too freely and attracting the Imperial Court's attention. 271

She later warns Lin Sheng about the risks of cultivating the Supreme Heavenly Demon Scripture, citing Divine Lord Li's mental deterioration after experiencing problems with the same Profound Technique. 296

Fulong City and the Jade Sea Pass Mission

In Fulong City, Qi Ning reports to Luo Yin, her brother-in-law, while maintaining that organizational rank should govern their formal interactions. She had concealed their family connection for years, although Luo Yin deliberately allowed it to become known among Dark Star's higher ranks and generally arranged relatively safe postings for her. 298

When Yellow Dog informs her that Gong Wei has provoked Lin Sheng over a Spirit Bone Python commission, she immediately rushes to intervene. Her primary concern is Gong Wei's safety, as she understands Lin Sheng's strength. After finding that Gong Wei has survived their confrontation, she takes Lin Sheng to Guiyuan Pavilion to meet Luo Yin and settle the matter. 302 303

During the visit, Luo Yin directs Yuan Fang to give her Spirit Condensing Pills prepared to address the effects of Xiang Kong's spiritual assault. Although Qi Ning is reluctant to leave Lin Sheng alone with Luo Yin, she complies and later hurries back to check that their meeting has ended safely. 304

Qi Ning subsequently informs Lin Sheng of Dark Star's alliance with Southern Qi and the assignment of its Seeds to transport Crimson Crystal Stone. On learning that his route passes through Jade Sea Pass, the route closest to the front lines, she objects and remains with Luo Yin after Lin Sheng leaves, apparently seeking better arrangements for him. 311

Before his departure, she explains that Luo Yin has negotiated additional preparations with Southern Qi's receiving party and that three Blazing Star Emissaries will accompany the convoy. She wishes to go herself but must return to Tiannan Prefecture, with Luo Yin accompanying her because of the danger posed by Xiang Kong. 314

When the mission's details are leaked, Qi Ning fears for Lin Sheng's unsupported route. After reports suggest that his convoy has defeated its attackers, she raises the possibility that Lin Sheng himself was responsible, citing his repeated, unexpectedly rapid growth. The subsequent report confirms that he killed Lu Mei and two Dragon Whisker Teng Snakes and broke the Purple Spider Demon Array at Jade Sea Pass. 327 333 334

Mist Island and the Eastern Continent

Qi Ning reaches Mist Island safely before Lin Sheng can carry out his plan to bring her and the others there. When they reunite, she expresses amazement at how far he has advanced, reflecting on the growth she has witnessed since his days as an insignificant young martial artist. 453

Later, Lin Sheng reunites with Qi Ning, Lan Man, Da Huang, and Little Black on the Eastern Continent. During this reunion, he learns that Divine Lord Li wishes to see him, leading to his final visit to his dying master on Misty Sea Island. 515
