Background / History

Cao Tong was a core member of Yan Wu Academy and had enough standing that Coach Lu, despite being older, addressed him as senior brother. He led the assessment panel for the Core Disciple melee, where he took notice of Chen Feng's rapid, self-taught progress in Judo and Sanshou. 39 41

After the assessment, Cao Tong became the Core Class's martial dao coach. He established its daily training schedule, introduced the Heavenly Flame Scarlet Tiger School's inheritance, and personally taught the Flame Tiger Stance and Scarlet Tiger Flying Heaven Diagram. 46

Cao Tong quickly identified Chen Feng's exceptional aptitude. He noticed Chen Feng's Tiger Form during practice, concluded that Chen Feng had undergone Martial Awakening after the latter mastered the realm in a day, and reported the Snake Man incident to the elders so Chen Feng could receive a reward. 52 53 70

As Chen Feng advanced, Cao Tong became one of his principal guides and supporters. Despite his intimidating presence, he is patient and attentive when teaching. He explains the Flame Tiger Stance's realms, answers students' questions, supervises Chen Feng's pill absorption for over half an hour, and gives practical advice on cultivation choices. 46 71 77
