Background
Kyoya is a transmigrator living in Japan as a seventeen-year-old student at Hohgitsunohara Academy. Before learning that the supernatural exists, he regards himself as an ordinary person in a world where human limits should be respected. His first established friendships are with Emiya Shirou and Matou Shinji. 1
He becomes concerned by Shirou’s self-destructive desire to save everyone, urging him to value his own life and act within his limits. Kyoya later intervenes when Shinji abuses Sakura, forcing Shinji to confront his weakness and helping catalyze Shinji’s break with his father. 1 9 10
The Hero Simulator lets Kyoya live full alternate lives without losing the memories or skills gained there. Its talents, combat experience, and philosophy accumulate across scenarios, gradually turning an initially ordinary student into a magus, combatant, cultivator, and wielder of exceptional supernatural powers. 1 35
Personality
Kyoya is pragmatic, analytical, and openly rejects the conventional image of a selfless hero. He calls himself selfish because he will oppose the world to protect the people he personally values; nevertheless, that selfishness repeatedly brings him to the aid of strangers in immediate danger. 12 28 102
In battle, he treats survival as the priority rather than chivalry. He uses ambushes, lime powder, psychological warfare, feigned openings, and improvised weapons without hesitation, while distinguishing between training—where tricks hinder growth—and real combat, where anything that ensures survival is valid. 2 4 45
His ruthlessness is balanced by a persistent refusal to abandon those close to him. He joins Vortigern to prevent his friends from becoming sacrifices to the Divine Era’s decline, challenges Oda Nobunaga despite the danger to himself, and repeatedly risks his life to alter futures that threaten Rin, Ritsuka, and others. 3 57 65 101
Kyoya is intensely protective of his younger sister, Fujimaru Ritsuka, but recognizes that his attempts to force her to understand the world’s cruelty can become the same overbearing behavior he once despised. 72 75 78
Abilities & Skills
Hero Simulator
Kyoya’s defining ability is the Hero Simulator, which places him in historical and mythological scenarios under different identities.
- Simulated lives provide talents, combat experience, memories, and occasional supernatural abilities that can be retained afterward. 9 35
- His attributes increase through battle within simulations. 1
- Each incarnation develops distinct specialties, including Lloyd’s Flowing Water Sword, Zhao Tian’s spearwork, Liaochen’s Buddhist cultivation, and Cain’s anti-vampire abilities. 18 35 49 113
Martial Arts and Combat Adaptation
Kyoya is an exceptional close-range fighter whose accumulated experience spans swordsmanship, spearwork, Baji Quan, and unarmed combat.
- Infinite Martial Arts grants unity of mind, technique, and body, while preventing mental interference from disrupting his fighting ability. 11
- First Before First allows him to read an opponent’s intent before they attack while concealing his own intent. 11 44
- Ghost Brain accelerates his ability to model battlefields, calculate responses, and imitate techniques. 24 46
- He can use Energy Dispersion to relax his body like water, redirect incoming force, and return that force offensively. 45 87
- He can imitate his own simulated incarnation through Jewel Imitation Fist, reproducing Lloyd’s Flowing Water Sword stance and combat presence. 46
Water Manipulation and Flowing Water Sword
Kyoya’s most recognizable combat style uses Mana Burst (Water) and the Flowing Water Sword.
- Draws moisture from the air into floating droplets, blades, and projectiles. 7 8
- Forms rainwater into swords with Noble Phantasm-grade durability for combat. 78
- Uses water-based movement, concealment, defense, and concentrated drilling attacks to breach stronger techniques. 71 99
- Can combine water droplets with modified gems to create fragmentation grenades. 136
Noble Phantasms and Reality Marbles
Kyoya has wielded multiple high-ranking supernatural armaments and territories.
- Sword of Perpetual Purity — His Holy Sword, embodying pure courage and used as the foundation of his Noble Phantasm. 2 5
- Knights Never Fight Unarmed — Imbues any weapon he holds with the properties of his Noble Phantasm. 4 77
- Rhongomyniad’s Rainy Night — A Reality Marble deployed through resolve and perseverance; under the Holy Tree, it made him effectively invincible and created a battlefield shaped by his will. 8 9
- Thus I Cut — A decisive Buddhist sword strike used to break barriers, sever karma, destroy the Golden Demonic Realm, and kill Toyotomi Hideyoshi. 56 57 63
Magecraft
After returning from his early simulations, Kyoya studies magecraft under Tohsaka Rin.
- Uses Jewel Magecraft through unconventional firearm-inspired spells, including Jewel Shotgun and a mortar-like bombardment. 40 41
- Maintains gem-based floating weapons and barriers, called the Gem Floating Cannon, for ranged attacks and defense. 44
- Uses gems as flashbangs, defensive screens, and explosive payloads. 44 136
- Possesses high-quality Magic Circuits and high Magic Resistance through Divine Ancestral Regression. 45
- Later demonstrates an incomplete form of the First Magic, capable of overwhelmingly altering the battlefield. 122 160
Buddhist Cultivation
As Liaochen, Kyoya develops a Buddhist path centered on Meditative Absorption, self-definition, and accepting both compassion and violence within himself.
- Non-form prevents illusions, demonic influence, and mental corruption from erasing his sense of self. 47 49
- Limitless Zen suppresses killing intent and turns absolute stillness into a multiplied burst of force. 47 51
- Heavenly Eye grants broad clairvoyance across the Three Realms and Six Paths. 47 48
- Supernatural Footwork allows instantaneous movement to locations he can perceive and sincerely reach. 48 56
- Abhijñā allows him to see through illusions and pursue enlightenment after merging with his demonic self. 61
Mystic Eyes and Perception
Kyoya’s perception expands beyond conventional sight.
- Mystic Eyes of Death Perception reveal death lines on living beings and objects; severing them kills or destroys the target. 108
- Destiny Perception lets him glimpse possible futures, including threats to Rin and the hidden nature of Hakuno. 64 65
- Mind Reading allows him to hear thoughts, though he deliberately limits it to avoid being overwhelmed by others’ darkness. 147
- His accumulated Buddhist powers also include an incomplete set of the Six Supernatural Powers; he still lacks the Heavenly Ear. 147
Church Authorities
Following Chris’s prayer, Kyoya receives six Royal Authorities and develops as an Executor-like combatant.
- Judgment purifies evil and is especially effective against Dead Apostles. 116 118
- Immortality grants powerful regeneration, allowing him to continue fighting through otherwise fatal injuries. 116 120
- Authority, Flock, Grace, and Peaceful Sleep augment his supernatural dominance and support capabilities. 116
- Uses Black Keys and Baptismal Chants to suppress undead enemies and opposing Reality Marbles. 116
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sword of Perpetual Purity — Kyoya’s Holy Sword and primary Noble Phantasm; he carries it in a sword bag in modern Fuyuki. 2 64
- Demonic Blade Murasame — A bloodthirsty demonic blade wielded by Liaochen; it grows through killing and is ultimately entrusted to Miyamoto Musashi. 49 63
- Black Keys — Church weapons used alongside Baptismal Chants and the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. 110 116
- Gem ammunition — Lapis lazuli and other gems modified into barriers, flashbangs, mana beams, and fragmentation grenades. 44 136
- Zhuge Liang’s Token — A Three Kingdoms-era communication catalyst that allows Zhuge Liang to guide him over long distances. 29
Relationships
- Emiya Shirou — Close friend. Kyoya challenges Shirou’s self-sacrificial habits and urges him to pursue justice without discarding his own life. 1

- Artoria / Artorius — Recurring rival, ally, and ideological counterpart across multiple scenarios. Their battles develop into mutual recognition, even when they stand on opposing sides. 2 5 9 89
- Vortigern — Scenario ally. Kyoya joins him not from loyalty, but to prevent the Divine Era’s decline from consuming those Kyoya wishes to protect. 3 6 8
- Miyamoto Musashi — Disciple in all but name. Kyoya guides and protects her through the Sengoku era, while Musashi ultimately inherits Murasame and continues her own path. 50 54 63

Britain Scenario
In his first Hero Simulator life, Kyoya fails to draw the Sword in the Stone and becomes Artorius’s Arch-Nemesis. As Lloyd, he gains the Sword of Perpetual Purity, joins Vortigern to resist the Divine Era’s decline, and wages war against the Knights of the Round Table. 1 2 3
Though he loses Vortigern’s Holy Tree protection and is overwhelmed by the Knights, Kyoya refuses to retreat. His resolve manifests Rhongomyniad’s Rainy Night, allowing him to defeat nearly every Knight before dying in a final clash with Artoria. 8 9
Uruk Scenario
As Shadow, Kyoya learns that he is a Heaven’s Wedge, a demigod intended to bind gods and humanity. He awakens Benevolent Dark Emperor after choosing to defend civilians and later fights Gilgamesh with the aid of the people who support his rule. 11 12 15
Three Kingdoms Scenario
Under the names Zhao Tian and Zhao Yun, Kyoya studies at Water Mirror Manor, fights Zhang Liao, rescues refugees from Luoyang, and convinces Zhuge Liang to act despite despair over the Han Dynasty’s fate. 25 26 28 29

Sengoku Scenario
As Liaochen, Kyoya becomes the Demonic Blade Monk after taking Murasame to save Kong Xuan from ronin. His killing awakens Man-slayer and feeds both Murasame and the rumors that reshape him into an Innocent Monster. 48 49 50
He trains Miyamoto Musashi, defeats Yagyu Munenori through Limitless Zen, and attempts to purify Murasame while resisting the wars and political schemes surrounding the blade. 51 52 53
Kyoya intervenes at Honnō-ji, defeats the possessed Oda Nobunaga, and later embraces his Buddha and Demon aspects to destroy Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Golden Demonic Realm with Thus I Cut. 56 57 62 63
Fuyuki and the Holy Grail War
Back in modern Fuyuki, Kyoya trains under Rin, develops Jewel Magecraft, survives the Aozaki sisters’ conflict, and acquires Buddhist powers through study at Ryuudou Temple. 24 40 44 64
After learning through Destiny Perception that Rin will die in the Holy Grail War, he chooses to protect her and Ritsuka. He later manifests as a Pseudo-Servant while fighting Matou Shinji’s Artoria and continues opposing outcomes that would sacrifice his friends for the world’s “correct” future. 65 89 99 102
Church and True Ancestor Conflict
As Cain, Kyoya awakens the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception and turns the Church’s own weapons and scripture against its Templar Knights. 108 110
He defeats and terrorizes the True Ancestor Yagel, gains Executor and Imaginary True Ancestor talents, then uses his Church-derived Authorities to fight Dead Apostles, Executors, and powerful supernatural enemies. 113 114 116
After excessive knowledge strips away his humanity, Kyoya discards his accumulated power and knowledge, finds the small remnant that represents his human self, and returns able to demonstrate the First Magic. 121 122
Fairy Britain and Later Simulations
Kyoya assists Artoria against Morgan’s oppression while struggling with his foretold role as the demon king destined to destroy her world. He defeats Barghest through Mana Burst (Water), gem grenades, and close-quarters combat, then works uneasily with Oberon. 133 136
In later scenarios, Kyoya confronts Machine Gods, assists in the defeat and imprisonment of Kronos and Uranus, and uses an incomplete First Magic alongside Chris’s support to repair damage to the Great Source. 154 158 167
