Who Are You?
Shien naturally had no way of knowing what would happen next.
However, he could guess at least a portion of it.
"If possible, I really hope to have a normal and smooth start to my life in Another World."
With that thought, the slight excitement and thrill that had been echoing in Shien's heart ever since he left the forest had vanished without a trace.
Basically, Shien was not a person who liked to act in a high-profile manner.
Although he couldn't remember anything about his past life, he still retained his personality.
Therefore, Shien understood himself very well and knew exactly what kind of person he was.
He was someone who felt curious about novel things but disliked overly stimulating developments or events. If possible, he wanted to live a mundane life, avoid trouble, and certainly not stand out; he only wanted to blend into the crowd and quietly observe all sorts of novelties.
However, on the other hand, if something irreversible truly happened, Shien wouldn't complain or blame others, nor would he deliberately try to escape; he would simply accept it as an unavoidable circumstance.
Thus, regarding the incredible event of being reincarnated into Another World, Shien basically didn't have any special feelings. He simply accepted it as a matter of course and showed his curiosity only in appropriate situations.
Thanks to this, Shien had a strong ability to accept things, or perhaps one could say he was very good at facing objective facts and even better at finding joy in hardship. Even though he felt curious about the adventurer profession and the customs of Another World, he had no desire to become eye-catching. Unlike the protagonists in novels, he wasn't keen on carving out a great reputation or career in Another World to go down in history and change his previously mundane and boring life.
In other words, Shien actually hoped to live a plain and simple life.
Even though he had been reincarnated into Another World, possessed a second life, became the legendary Hero, and was asked by the Goddess to defeat the Demon King, he didn't want to act too high-profile.
If possible, Shien intended to become an adventurer in a mundane way, complete various commissions and tasks in a mundane way, slowly raise his level and strength, and when the time was ripe, find an opportunity to defeat the Demon King and complete his mission.
Furthermore, Shien even hoped that he could defeat the Demon King quietly and without anyone knowing, before anyone had even reacted.
By then, the people of this world might be extremely surprised or shocked, but no one would know that Shien was the one who did it, allowing him to hide his achievements and continue living his second life in this world in a mundane fashion.
This was what Shien wanted to do.
Ambitious people might look down on such a Shien, thinking that since he had been reincarnated into Another World, had become the Hero, and had such a cheat-like advantage, it was a total waste of his opportunity to have no drive at all.
People who fantasized about having such a life, traveling to Another World like a protagonist to unfold a magnificent life, might also resent such a Shien, thinking it was detestable that he was so unenterprising after obtaining what others dreamed of.
However, Shien was just that kind of person. He didn't want to seek excitement, much less fame and fortune; he only hoped to spend his life peacefully and steadily, and that would be enough.
"Is it really so wrong to make a living as an adventurer, tour this world if possible to see all kinds of novel things, and steadily raise my level while living such a life?"
Shien sighed to himself while walking along the busy road.
Shien, in his state, didn't notice at all that someone had just passed by him and, having happened to hear what he said, stopped in her tracks.
"Hey, adventurer over there, you seem to be saying something quite interesting, don't you?"
When such a pleasant voice reached Shien's ears, he was startled. He stopped, turned his head, and looked toward the source of the sound.
At that glance, Shien couldn't help but be stunned.
Because a beautiful young girl had entered his field of vision.
She looked to be only seventeen or eighteen years old, a year or two younger than Shien, yet she was tall, standing over 170 centimeters. Her whole body exuded a noble and elegant aura, making her look like a young lady from a wealthy family out for a stroll.
The girl had long, straight, jet-black hair and red eyes. She wore a dress that matched her temperament perfectly while still being convenient for movement. Even though the dress wasn't flashy, because of the girl's overly beautiful appearance and outstanding temperament, it looked as if it were a princess's gown from a royal court.
As the saying goes, clothes make the man; usually, it should be the clothing that sets off the person, but here, it was the person setting off the clothing, which was truly incredible.
The girl was holding a snack that looked like a piece of flatbread with its packaging torn open, eating it bite by bite. Her gaze was fixed on Shien, and she spoke to him as if on a whim.
"You're an adventurer, right? Don't all adventurers hope to make a name for themselves to achieve something?"
The girl asked as if she were curious.
She wasn't wrong.
Basically, all adventurers hoped to make a name for themselves so they could enter the eyes of major nobles and even the royal family, thereby accepting more high-level, high-difficulty, and high-reward commissions.
It could be said that what adventurers needed most was fame.
Only with fame could they attract more attention and gain more profitable opportunities, eventually going down in history; this was what every adventurer pursued.
Many people held expectations and longing for the adventurer profession because successful adventurers were like dazzling stars, able to receive hospitality from major powers and even nations, gathering money, fame, and status all into their pockets.
Therefore, for those ordinary people, and even for nobles, becoming an adventurer was something worth yearning for.
Under such circumstances, it was no wonder the girl felt curious about Shien's statement.
However...
"Excuse me, who are you?"
After a moment of silence, Shien asked this question with great confusion.
He didn't get carried away because he had attracted the curiosity and attention of a beautiful girl, nor was he flustered by being suddenly addressed by her. He didn't even feel joy, nor did he try to chat her up to attract her attention and set the stage for a beautiful encounter; instead, he asked the question in a very unromantic way.
This caused the girl's beautiful eyebrows to arch, and she put down the snack in her hand.
"Are you asking me to introduce myself?"
The girl's attitude was somewhat playful.
"But you should know, not just anyone can get me to state my name, you know?"
The atmosphere began to turn subtle because of the girl's words.
