At first, the gunshots, which were extremely faint compared to the scene, didn't attract anyone's attention. Even if someone heard them, they would have mistaken them for fireworks being set off by the organizers.
It wasn't until someone in the crowd collapsed from a gunshot wound that people nearby screamed and warned others, plunging the entire venue into chaos.
The audience inside the venue scrambled to escape, or desperately sought cover. Casualties from the stampede were even higher than those from direct gunfire.
Kraft and Fatty Liao, however, were unharmed. Due to their small stature, they weren't exposed to the line of fire, and with Alice the robot present, the chaotic crowd couldn't harm them either.
"Fxxk! When did places outside of Hell's Kitchen become this dangerous too!"
Kraft and the other two scrambled behind a flower bed. The gunshots outside continued. Most of those who could escape had already fled. Those still remaining were mostly people too close to the front to push their way out.
"Being too close to the front isn't always an advantage."
Once temporarily safe, Kraft still had the energy to joke.
"Hey! Kraft! Do you have any inventions that can solve this situation?"
Fatty Liao asked, while trying his best to hide his bulk behind the flower bed.
"Damn it! I'm definitely going on a diet when I get back this time!"
"Need me to sponsor your weight loss kit?"
Kraft had already contacted Haro via Bluetooth headset. From the intelligence Haro provided, he knew there was only one shooter, an old white man staying in a nearby hotel. From their current position, unless they were incredibly unlucky, it was almost impossible for them to be hit. That's why he had the leisure to banter with Fatty Liao.
"Did he start shooting because he couldn't sleep from the noise?"
After explaining the situation to Fatty Liao, he finally breathed a sigh of relief, then grumbled indignantly.
"The music festival has been advertised for so long, he should have known about it! Why would he still stay nearby?"
Kraft rolled his eyes. "The nearby hotels are for people attending the music festival. That old man clearly had this planned all along, right? Shooting over noise complaints... You really do have a wild imagination."
"Um... Brother?"
At this moment, Alice's weak voice sounded from the side.
"What's wrong?"
"Can't you help them?"
Alice pointed to the injured people groaning on the ground in the distance, her face filled with pity.
"I have a solution... but it would cause too much of a commotion," Kraft frowned. "I don't want the FBI knocking on my door."
Given Kraft's feelings towards people of other ethnicities, he wouldn't expose himself for the sake of these people's lives.
"B-but, they look so pitiful..."
Faced with Alice's pitiful little face, Kraft felt a headache coming on.
Even if Kraft had firmly refused Alice's request, she wouldn't have said much. But Kraft genuinely saw her as a daughter (scratch that) sister now, so he couldn't possibly ignore her wish.
"Let me think of a way first."
Kraft helplessly appeased Alice, then considered what items he had that could resolve the current situation without making a sound.
If it was just about dealing with the shooter, Kraft had plenty of ways. He could even have Alice charge in aggressively, and it would be easily resolved.
But to solve this problem without alerting others, Kraft could only think of one method: the engineering creation in his bag – the Gnome Mind Control Hat.
He had originally prepared it for Hulk, who was somewhere unknown at the moment. Since Hulk looked like he didn't have much intelligence, a mind control hat that could control others' thoughts should be able to deal with him effectively.
However, there was another problem. The Gnome Mind Control Hat didn't have a very large effective range. Kraft was too far away now to control the shooter.
"Crowd over here, block my line of sight."
Kraft thought about the equipment in his bag and on his person, quickly finalized his combat plan, and beckoned to Fatty Liao and Alice.
He didn't need to worry about cameras; Haro had already taken control of all of them. However, there were other people to his left. Although they were all lying on the ground and not looking this way, and the sky was dark making it hard to see clearly, Kraft still preferred to act cautiously.
Fatty Liao and Alice followed Kraft's instructions, moving to his left and completely shielding him. Fortunately, Kraft was the smallest of the three, so blocking him wasn't difficult.
Then, the two watched as Kraft took a funny-looking hat out of his backpack and put it on. The hat looked like a wok, with a black and white spiral disk inserted on top. As Kraft put on the strange hat, the disk began to slowly rotate.
Staring at the disk with a strange expression for a while, Fatty Liao felt a bit dizzy.
"What the hell is this now?"
He rubbed his eyes, which were starting to see double, and mumbled, looking away.
However, Kraft didn't have time to explain. He took out a metal device shaped like a stopwatch from his bag, opened the protective casing, and pressed a button inside.
Then, Fatty Liao watched as Kraft disappeared before his eyes. Before he could even exclaim, he felt a gust of wind rush past him, and cold air mixed with dirt and sand flew into Fatty Liao's mouth, which had opened in surprise.
"Ptooey ptooey ptooey!"
Fatty Liao quickly spat out the sand in his mouth, momentarily forgetting to scream.
Kraft was unaware that he had almost been screwed over by the pig teammate Fatty Liao. While activating the Gnome Invisibility Device, he also activated the Gnome Rocket Boots under his feet. Since the invisibility device's duration was less than 20 seconds, he had to hurry.
And because he didn't have enough time to find a detour, Kraft worried about accidentally being hit by stray bullets, so he also activated the Gnome Protective Belt on his waist.
I fxxking love Gnome technology!
With his figure concealed and protected by the field generated by the Gnome Protective Belt, Kraft quickly traversed the venue and rushed to the hotel below. Before the invisibility device's effect wore off, he found a hidden spot to hide.
There was also chaos inside the hotel at this time, with occasional shouts and cries of pain. The most dangerous gunshots had also not stopped.
Fortunately, the floor the gunman was on wasn't very high. Kraft's current position already placed him within the Gnome Mind Control Hat's control range.
Kraft tilted his head up, focusing his gaze on the murderer peeking half his head out of the window. He then flipped the switch on the mind control hat. As the black and white disc on his forehead began to spin rapidly, Kraft's consciousness was pulled out of his body as if by a vortex, then launched like a cannonball towards the gunman by the window.
"Hmm... so this is what it feels like to control a human?"
When Kraft regained his senses, the scene before him had switched to the gunman's perspective. It wasn't much different from when he'd tested it on animals before, but the repulsion he felt when controlling a human was much greater than when controlling an animal.
Since the Gnome Mind Control Hat's control duration was only a dozen seconds, Kraft didn't have much time to waste. He directly picked up the gun in his hand and aimed it at himself.
"Da-da-da..."
The moment Kraft pulled the trigger, his consciousness returned to his own body. Kraft stroked his chin. Although controlling someone else only provided visual and auditory senses, and no others, shooting oneself was still not a pleasant feeling.
After dealing with the killer, Kraft opened the back cover of the invisibility device and replaced the Emerald inside, which served as its energy source, with a new one. He then picked up a stone at his feet, rubbed gunpowder out of it, and poured it into his shoes. Before anyone else could react, he used the same method as when he arrived to slip back to Alice and Fatty Liao.
"Since I don't have a robot maid anymore, this invisibility device will do!"
As soon as he returned, the first thing Kraft saw was Fatty Liao's chubby face, which clearly displayed "LSP."
"Get lost!"
This music festival shooting had a real-life prototype. It took place in Las Vegas, and the perpetrator was an old white man who sprayed machine-gun fire for over five minutes, killing about fifty people and injuring over a hundred. The perpetrator eventually committed suicide in the hotel.
