Background / History
Seven years before the story, Kraft was abducted by the Magia Gang and subjected to human experimentation. Following one experiment, he began experiencing chaotic dreams of people and beings from other worlds inventing and creating devices. The information overload left him feverish and disoriented; by the time he recovered, his memories from before the abduction—including his original name—had disappeared. 2
Kraft escaped the Magia Gang’s experimental base alongside Martin Lee, whom he clung to during the breakout. The two eventually settled in New York’s Chinatown, where Martin became his adoptive father. Kraft took Martin’s surname and selected his own given name after rejecting “Lovecraft” as unsuitable. Martin’s Medal of Freedom later secured genuine identities for them both. 2
His early experiences left Kraft hostile toward non-Asians and determined to someday return across the ocean. Although he initially opposed Martin’s decision to turn a clothing store into the FEAST Homeless Shelter, his views gradually softened after meeting kind people of different backgrounds. 2
As his dreams became clearer, Kraft began recreating simpler inventions from them. He partnered with David “Fatty” Liao, with Kraft handling production and David managing sales. Under the online identity Clever Hands Doctor, he filmed his creations for the Clever Hands Channel and earned enough to establish a private workshop in Chinatown. 2
Appearance
Kraft is a Chinese teenage boy who was fourteen when introduced. He normally wears his hair messily, though Martin styled it with wax and put him in a suit for the All-New York Middle School Joint Exchange Ball. 2 6
- Often carries or wears self-made gadgets, including an anesthetic watch and enhancement wristbands. 2 7
- Uses a solar-powered skateboard for rapid travel. 27 48
- Pilots Botakun, a plush-like miniature mecha, while concealing his identity. 41 43
Personality
Kraft is inventive, impatient, and deeply skeptical of anything he cannot explain. He calls even his own successful inventions “unscientific” when they violate his understanding of physical laws. Rather than accepting dream knowledge uncritically, he experiments, studies, and attempts to understand or adapt what he recreates. 9 37
He is mischievous and enjoys teasing people, especially Peter Parker and Alice. He can be sarcastic toward arrogant opponents, as demonstrated when he publicly humiliated Slade Hammer and responded to Lewis’s provocation with both insults and force. 4 6 7
Despite his abrasive manner, Kraft is protective of his family and friends. He treats Alice as his sister, refuses to create a complex AI merely to satisfy David’s desires, monitors threats to people close to him, and intervenes to save Uncle Ben during a shooting. 17 34 48 49
Kraft dislikes publicity and official attention. His fame through Dream Toy Company and Tony Stark’s endorsement repeatedly frustrates him, and he deliberately keeps more dangerous inventions hidden to avoid attention from government agencies. 5 26 29
Abilities & Skills
Dream-Derived Creation
Kraft receives knowledge through involuntary dreams depicting inventors, engineers, scientists, and fantastical worlds. He can recreate some dream inventions in reality, including devices that operate through otherwise impossible rules. 2 9 37
- His dreams range from relatively practical technology to magic-dependent or alien creations beyond his ability to reproduce. 2
- He cannot choose when he dreams or initially control what knowledge he receives. 2
- He discovered that he can apply the rules of different dream worlds while creating items, which he considers a possible superpower. 37
- Others can replicate the physical construction of some of his devices, but their copies lack the “unscientific” effects of Kraft’s originals. 18
Engineering and Invention
Kraft is a highly capable inventor who designs, modifies, and manufactures devices across mechanical engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, defensive systems, and biotechnology. He improves upon dream-derived technology rather than only copying it. 3 12 39
- Built and commercialized mechanical locks, fitness equipment, solar-powered skateboards, mechanical pets, and combat pets. 3 5 27 30 31
- Created Alice independently from Dr. Dongyun’s blueprints while suppressing dream memories of the original manufacturing process. 12
- Designed his own miniature arsenal and removed dream-world-specific components so Angela and Haro could assist in its construction. 39
- His early attempts at complex inventions had a low success rate due to insufficient knowledge and unfamiliarity with workshop machinery. 8
Gnome Engineering
After dreaming of Azerothian craftsmen, Kraft learned gnome and goblin engineering techniques, including material-shaping methods that bypass conventional manufacturing. 22 23
- Can shape metals by hand, turn rocks into gunpowder, and polish gems into lenses without ordinary tools. 23
- Uses Earth-made substitute alloys when dream blueprints require unavailable materials such as Mithril. 23
- Developed Mechanical Squirrels, Gnome Rocket Boots, protective equipment, invisibility devices, and a mind-control hat from this knowledge. 23 28
- Many advanced engineering designs remain inaccessible because their cores require magical materials. 22 25
Artificial Intelligence and Cyberwarfare
Kraft created and operates several artificial intelligences, notably Haro and Angela. He uses them for surveillance, information analysis, automation, hacking, and construction. 17 32 39
- Haro can activate workshop defenses, search databases, and conduct network intrusions. 17
- Angela was recreated from Red Queen’s code after Kraft carefully analyzed it; she and Haro successfully breached Tony Stark’s network despite Jarvis’s resistance. 32
- Angela can project a virtual image by manipulating available light sources. 37
- Kraft avoids reckless intrusions after encountering heavily defended databases and artificial-intelligence countermeasures. 17 18
Combat and Tactical Skill
Kraft has street-fighting experience from his years on the run with Martin and supplements his physical limitations with technology. 7 43
- Uses arm-strength-enhancing wristbands to throw a much larger opponent several meters. 7
- Built automated workshop defenses, including steel walls, machine guns, and riot shields, to repel armed intruders. 16 17
- Pilots Botakun with strong tactical awareness, anti-gravity mobility, and a λ-Driver that converts his emotions into weapon energy. 41 42
- His reaction speed and stamina are limited during sustained combat; he relies heavily on Angela and Haro for support. 43
- Began physical training and used dream-derived nutrient and recovery technologies to improve his fitness. 43 45
Accelerated Learning
Kraft created a learning helmet based on Child Emperor’s invention, allowing him to absorb and better understand knowledge acquired through dreams. 37
- Lets him modify or repurpose inventions whose original applications are irrelevant in his world. 37
- Greatly improves his ability to learn from dream laboratories, books, notes, and observed manufacturing processes. 37
- Excessive knowledge injection causes confusion, impaired thinking, and later memory loss. 37
