Background

Kraft built Alice over the course of a week from blueprints he had encountered in a dream. Rather than rely on his dream memories of the assembly process, he deliberately suppressed them and completed the construction independently. Upon activation, Alice immediately displayed human-like intelligence and emotions. 12

Kraft named her Alice after Alice in Wonderland and created the identity of “Alice Lee,” his distant cousin. Martin Lee accepted the arrangement and used his influence to obtain identification for her. 12 13
