Background

Wanyan Meng was initially known as the feared Bane Star, a limping rogue cultivator afflicted with an ancient Destined Curse. Anyone who came within two zhang of her could be infected by the curse and suffer extreme misfortune, leaving her isolated from other cultivators. Her past and origins were initially described as mysterious. 146 154

Her curse protected her during a Purple Lightning Tribulation: when the lightning descended, a gray cocoon formed around her and absorbed the danger without harming her. Jiu Zi believed the cocoon had been created by the curse itself and invited Wanyan Meng to the Witch Clan in hopes of relieving it. 183

Much later, intelligence reveals that Wanyan Meng is the biological daughter of Immortal Emperor Qingshui. Within the artifact Kyōka Suigetsu, she explains that the more assertive version of herself there is an ancient Wanyan Meng—a wisp of soul sealed by her ancient self—rather than Immortal Emperor Qingshui himself. 389 424

Wanyan Meng is initially cautious, apologetic, and deeply lonely. She fears harming others through her curse and repeatedly keeps her distance even from those trying to help her. Qin Wang becomes the first person she identifies as a true friend because he is willing to remain close to her despite her misfortune. 185 191 210

She is intelligent and observant, quickly understanding how her curse can be used against Qin Wang's enemies. Her gratitude often becomes self-sacrificing: she provides her own blood to aid Qin Wang against the Murong Family and later drains herself while spreading her curse across Tianchu Imperial City. 185 191 201

The Bane Star and the Murong Family

Wanyan Meng is first encountered while living alone and avoiding others because of her curse. The Murong Family pursues her after a unique Murong mark is left on her, eventually cornering her with eight late Qi Refining cultivators. Qin Wang, using the identity Li Xiaoye, kills her pursuers and saves her before she must use Jiu Zi's bone club. 146 184 185

Alliance with Qin Wang

Qin Wang offers to help Wanyan Meng reach Foundation Establishment and guarantee her safety. In return, she agrees to bring misfortune to the Tianchu Immortal Dynasty. She assists in the conflict with the Murong Family, offers Qin Wang additional “bad luck blood,” and witnesses his ability to rapidly eliminate three Foundation Establishment cultivators. 185 191

After reaching Foundation Establishment, Wanyan Meng enters Tianchu Imperial City and spends half a month spreading her blood across its walls. Her actions taint the dynasty with one-tenth of her ancient curse power, but the blood loss nearly damages her cultivation. 196 201

When the Ten Great Families attack both the Phoenix Yao Holy Land and the Witch Clan, Wanyan Meng and Wu Su intervene after ensuring the Holy Land is protected. Wanyan Meng's Curse Power causes the enemy cultivators' techniques to fail and leaves them suddenly weakened, helping the Witch Clan force the attackers into retreat. 522
