Amanda and Oliver realized they could no longer stand here talking, because these two corpses clearly hadn't been part of either of their plans.
They exchanged a look and, with perfect mutual understanding, went downstairs first to inspect the corpse on the first floor.
The moment they descended the stairs, they came face-to-face with a female corpse. She had probably been thrown in through a deck window, her whole body frozen in the posture of a fall. But the most horrifying thing was that the skin had been removed from her face.
"Flamingo," Amanda said in a low voice. "He skins his victims' faces and eats them after committing the crime. You could call it one of his signatures."
"A copycat," Oliver said as he stepped forward to inspect the body. "It came from one of Professor Schiller's papers. Later, he seemed to want to start a feud with Professor Pigface too, but neither of them paid him any attention."
Amanda found it absurdly funny.
"You're not saying he got humiliated in some serial killer club and that I should laugh at him too, are you? Why the hell does a club like that even need to exist?!"
"At least it helps us understand serial killers." Oliver crouched and gently turned the female corpse over. "No signs of rape. Death came quickly. She was probably strangled."
"Flamingo isn't on the second floor," Amanda said. "Even with a mask on, I'd recognize him if he turned to ashes."
"Maybe he's one of the third-round participants. Don't forget, some people have byes, and not everyone who boarded the ship has to choose an opponent to challenge. He might be part of a special event."
Oliver immediately checked the woman's arms, then her abdomen, but at that moment, there was a loud bang
