That Atlantean's brief statement contained far too much information, but Batman processed information much faster than ordinary people. The moment he heard "Batwoman" and "Sea Queen," he knew he had arrived in an unfamiliar universe—and that this universe was in bad shape.

There was no concrete evidence for that last conclusion; it was merely Batman's intuition. If he had to give a reason, it was that he had neither seen nor heard of this so-called Sea Queen or Batwoman in Battleworld. That most likely meant they had been in poor condition at the time and unable to participate in the game.

This universe made Batman feel extremely threatened. He also observed Clark and Hal's condition. Both of them displayed obvious discomfort, clearly feeling restrained and weakened by some mysterious force.

Batman instinctively signaled Clark with his eyes, telling him to take them down directly.

Without warning, the water surged violently, yet the Atlanteans' weapons did not move at all. Clark and Batman shot forward at speeds impossible to follow, the currents they kicked up sharp enough to be called water blades. If not for the protective light of Hal's Green Lantern energy, the trailing currents alone could have torn Batman to pieces.

In less than two exchanges, the three Atlantean warriors had been brought down. Clark knocked two of them unconscious, while Hal immediately used Green Lantern energy to create bindings that tied up all three.

What was that about? Batman wondered. Had Clark understood his look?

Though puzzled, Batman showed nothing. He silently stepped forward to inspect the Atlantean warriors, looking completely in control.

Only after Clark came to his side did Batman casually ask, "Did you see me signal you just now?"

"Actually, no."

Clark's answer made Batman breathe a sigh of relief.

Then he heard Clark say,
