Batman believed they should split into two groups now.

Splitting up was not always a foolish decision, especially when three of the four possessed superpowers, knew almost nothing about the state of this universe, and had a great many clues to investigate.

The final arrangement was Clark and Batman in one group, Hal and Atlan in the other. Batman had originally intended to team up with Hal, since Green Lantern's abilities were more versatile and flexible, making it easier to put some of Batman's ideas into practice.

But Clark absolutely refused to let Batman go with anyone else, which left Batman somewhat helpless. This universe's young Superman was clearly more assertive and independent-minded than the one Batman knew, yet he was also clingier, seeming to want to follow Batman everywhere.

In the end, Hal and Atlan went after Atlantis's Sea Queen, hoping to stop them before they reached Gotham. Batman and Clark took advantage of Atlantis's weakened defenses to investigate the strange phenomenon occurring in the ocean.

Atlan pointed out Atlantis's location to Batman. Clark could have taken him around the entire Earth several times without spending much time at all, but if this former Atlantean king wished to cooperate, Batman did not mind.

After the two teams set out, Batman and Clark quickly found Atlantis. It was an enormous city located in the depths of the ocean, its buildings and cultural landscape faintly retaining traces of their former glory.

They could only faintly see it because both Batman and Clark felt that the city before them could not possibly compare to the civilization Atlan had described as once being the most brilliant and grand on land.

The buildings on the city's outskirts had mostly collapsed, but some mysterious force had protected them from being eroded into dust by seawater.
