There were about seven billion people on Earth. Assuming they were all turned into vampires, they would need seven billion humans for food every day. So where were they supposed to find seven billion humans?
If the vampires were smarter, they could turn three billion people into vampires and raise the remaining three billion as livestock.
But there was still the problem Batman had mentioned. With a population of seven billion, only three or four hundred thousand people were born each day. With only three billion left, that would drop to barely over a hundred thousand a day. Births simply could not keep up with consumption. In the end, they would still starve to death.
"By my estimate, the vampire population has a threshold," Batman said. "There is a limit to how many vampires Earth can sustain perfectly. Once that number is exceeded, humans and vampires heading toward extinction together becomes inevitable."
Martian Hunter felt a chill run down his spine. "Do you think they've exceeded it already?"
"I'm afraid they haven't just exceeded it. They're far beyond it." Batman sighed. "That idiot never thought about this. He doesn't understand the fundamental rules of how a carbon-based society operates, the principles of distributing social resources, or how to lead a large organization. He acts entirely on fantasy, thinking it works like certain video games, where the more troops you produce, the better."
"I think he may be very young," Martian Hunter speculated. "He somehow obtained an organization and leads it based entirely on his shallow understanding, without considering any deeper issues. What a Big Trouble."
Martian Hunter thought for a moment, then asked, "Do you think there's still any way to salvage this?"
Batman shook his head. "In truth, I'm already close to giving up. Otherwise, I wouldn't have agreed
