He let out a breath and was just about to call Alfred when a message came from the Battle World System.
"Hello. You are hereby notified that your world is about to enter a story event and has been selected as a Dungeon by Battleworld Players. Four Players are expected to enter this universe in one hour. Their landing location will be—Metropolis."
Clark froze when he saw the notification.
This was a new feature Battleworld had introduced because some participating Players had complained that someone happened to visit their home while they were queuing for a Dungeon, throwing their plans into complete disarray—"some" referred specifically to Batman—so Battleworld had created this warning system.
For a period before their world became a Dungeon and other Players entered it, the system would notify the Players from that universe who participated in Battleworld, allowing them to prepare in advance.
Of course, this could lead some Players to prepare beforehand and deliberately obstruct or even harm other Players. But the information was transparent in both directions. The locals could prepare early, and those Players could prepare early too. It all came down to who prepared more thoroughly. That was part of the game.
But in most cases, Players did not engage in meaningless destructive behavior. On the one hand, they were constrained by missions. Resources gained through simple smashing, looting, and robbing could not be taken out, and failing the mission meant getting no points, making it a complete waste of time. On the other hand, Battleworld did not encourage meaningless destruction. If enough people complained, they could be banned.
