"Schiller Rodriguez, Psychology Professor at Gotham University. Which department are you in?"
"Hello, Professor Rodriguez. I study journalism."
"Are you Professor Ravens's student?"
"Yes, he teaches the foundational courses in our department. I still have to hand in homework to him tomorrow."
From that brief exchange, Schiller reached two conclusions. First, Kara Danvers really was Supergirl—the name, age, and major all matched. Second, she probably was not the New 52 version of Supergirl. She was not nearly as rebellious or hot-tempered, more like the older version of Kara, with a relatively stable temperament.
Kara El was Superman Kal-El's cousin, and likewise a descendant of the El family. However, her spaceship had been exiled into the Phantom Zone for more than twenty years before reaching Earth, so she was younger than her cousin Superman by Earth standards. Clark Kent had already graduated from college and worked for over a decade, while Kara had only just started university.
Before New 52, Kara graduated normally, found work, entered a newspaper office, and had a series of encounters with her boss—the "devil woman" of the journalism industry. The Kara of that time was more like an ordinary person.
However, New 52 Supergirl's background had been changed. When she first arrived on Earth, she could not even speak Earth languages. Later, she had no intention of integrating into Earth either, always considering herself an alien, with quite a violent temper.
Schiller was glad he had encountered the former. This Supergirl seemed perfectly normal, fitting right in with the sunny Gotham of the present.
