Batman got out of the car and saw Superman being escorted out of the Police Department by several officers. He looked dejected, with a trace of bewilderment.

The last time Batman had seen that expression on Superman's face was probably ten years ago. Back then, he had still been a simple small-town boy who knew nothing about high society and could not recognize the brands of any of Bruce Wayne's clothes. Sometimes, when facing Batman, he would wear that same expression.

Batman hurried over and signaled for the officers to keep their distance. Superman seemed to come back to himself a little and quickly grabbed Batman. "Don't worry. It was just routine questioning. I was there at the time, after all. It's only right that they ask about the details."

"But you weren't the only one there. The entire Police Department was full of cops, and now that someone's gone missing, they're blaming you..."

"They weren't blaming me." Superman gave Batman a gentle shove, then used his broad frame to block Batman's glare from the officers. He nodded at them, telling them to head back inside.

"Don't be like this, Bruce." Superman put an arm around his shoulders and turned him away. "I swear they were only asking me about what happened. I told them everything I knew. They were very polite and had no intention of accusing me. After all, keeping an eye on criminals for them isn't my duty."

"They see you as a potential accomplice." Batman's tone was deeply displeased. "They don't believe you really didn't see where Jonathan went."

Superman sighed softly. "Because it seems strange to me too. I can't blame them for overthinking it. I really didn't see where Jonathan went. As far as I remember, he never left the room at all."
