Darkseid gritted his teeth. "That treacherous bastard betrayed our alliance!"
"Oh, please, Darkseid. Would you ever sincerely cooperate with anyone? We all knew Earth and Apokolips were irreconcilable enemies, and that a battle would come sooner or later. Since that was the case, you can hardly blame us. Humanity must claim its rightful place in the universe."
"You used such despicable methods to destroy civilizations. You will not meet a good end either." Darkseid looked at Hal. "Was Krypton's destruction not enough to make you realize that endless transcendence is the root of ruin?"
"Unfortunately, you learned nothing either." Hal raised his chin slightly. "From the moment civilization set sail, there was no turning back. Every step forward is a gamble, and you are no different. You gambled that you could get Apokolips out intact while extracting enough benefits from Batman. But unfortunately, you lost. There will be no next chance."
Darkseid gave a cold smile as well. "I have long since ascended beyond the universe. Every Darkseid in every universe is my projection. Unless you kill us all, one day I will return to the Main Universe. Let Batman wait for me."
Hal had no intention of saying more. He extended a hand, and dark green energy wrapped around Darkseid. Darkseid, meanwhile, drew upon his last reserves of Nightmare Power, constructing a shield in a final struggle.
