As the lights in the compartments lit up one after another, the game officially began. The mechanism slowly rose, took a slip of paper from the bottom of the lantern above, then descended again until it was over the compartment. A mechanical arm-like part of the mechanism carried the slip downward. An opening appeared in the ceiling of the compartment, just large enough for the mechanical arm to enter.

However, perhaps to make it easier for them to observe the mechanism's direction of rotation and devise their own strategies, the compartment ceiling was transparent. It did not look like glass, but more like some kind of highly transparent resin material. The opening was right in the center of the compartment.
