To make sure Bruce wrote his thesis properly, Schiller arrived at Wayne Tower that very night, umbrella in hand.
However, he had no intention of doing what Superman would do—grabbing a villain and beating him senseless. That would make far too much noise and take far too much effort.
He had already formed some guesses about the villain's identity. After all, the previous incidents had provided plenty of clues. Schiller knew that tonight's opponent was not suited to being dealt with by brute force, so he had not summoned Moonlight Schiller and had decided to handle it himself.
After leaving the school, he turned into a mass of Gray Mist, like a gust of wind passing through the streets and alleys without stirring the slightest ripple.
By then, Wayne Tower was empty. The lights went out in window after window until, at last, what should have been the brightest building in all Gotham fell completely dark and blended into the rainy night.
As the breeze passed through layer upon layer of streets and alleys and reached the entrance of Wayne Tower, it lifted a notice from the ground. It read clearly: "Building-wide electrical maintenance today. Full power outage after 6:00 p.m."
Without electricity, there was naturally no work to be done, and the employees had all gone home early. Yet an uninvited guest had arrived even earlier.
A figure was moving slowly through the corridor on the thirteenth floor of Wayne Tower. His footsteps made it clear that he was somewhat hesitant; tonight seemed a little different from usual.
Normally, Wayne Tower would not turn off its lights this early. Many rooms here remained brightly lit throughout the night, and even when the flow of people was sparse at night, there were still people around.
But today, there was nothing.
