Background / History
Vana lost her parents during a cultist attack in childhood, receiving the scar across her left eye in the same event. Her uncle, Dante Wayne, raised her afterward. The incident was tied to the great fire later concealed in official records as a factory leak; Vana eventually learned that she should have died in that fire and survived through a “blessing” from subspace rather than divine intervention 29 84 155 212 218.
She became an Inquisitor of the Deep Sea Church and one of Pland’s principal defenders. Her investigations into Black Sun cult activity, sacrificial sites, and the return of the Lost Homeland brought her into repeated contact with Captain Duncan and the city-state’s concealed history 30 50 88.
As a Saint, Vana was selected as a Listener for Anomaly 004, the Tomb of the Nameless King. The tomb repeatedly erased her memories of its inner chamber, but she returned with crucial messages concerning Anomaly 099, Pland, Frost, the Lost Homeland, and the Lost Fleet 105 106 259 471.
During Pland’s historical-corruption crisis, Vana uncovered the missing year of 1885, identified the manipulation of the city-state’s history, and fought through the burning false history to reach the Sixth District sanctuary. She briefly joined a nun from 1885 against a subspace entity before Captain Duncan extracted her back into reality 155 173 195 205.
Pope Helena later removed Vana from her Inquisitor post and arranged for her to become the Deep Sea Church’s liaison aboard the Lost Homeland. Though initially overwhelmed by the ship and its crew, Vana became a regular member of Duncan’s expeditions 279 280 286 287.
Within the Dream of the Nameless, Vana traveled through the remains of the Senjin world with Tarquin, an ancient giant and recorder of history. Tarquin entrusted her with a miniature sun and the Chronicle Pillar before the world’s destruction; Vana later chose to place the Pillar in the care of the Fire-bringers rather than retain it as a personal possession 591 640 641 684.
Appearance
Vana is an exceptionally tall, imposing woman with a powerful but proportionate physique. She commonly wears light armor and carries a greatsword too large for most ordinary Guardians to wield 28 205.
- Long gray-white or silver-white hair 28 704
- A prominent scar crossing her left eye 28
- Beautiful but formidable features 28
- Stands roughly 6 feet 3 inches tall 330
- Typically wears silver-gray light armor and a battle skirt while on duty 28
Personality
Vana is direct, disciplined, and practical. She favors decisive solutions to heretical threats, often meeting danger head-on rather than allowing enemies time to recover or escape 197. Her bluntness does not prevent careful thought: she studies mundane records, recognizes patterns in historical anomalies, and remains alert to the cognitive traps associated with supernatural phenomena 49 155 171.
Despite her severe Inquisitor image, Vana is protective of civilians, her subordinates, Dante, Heidi, and the Lost Homeland’s crew. She is willing to show vulnerability around people she trusts, particularly Dante and Heidi 84 145 219.
Her faith in Gemona is sincere but increasingly complicated. Learning that her survival came from subspace caused Vana to question why Gemona still chose her as a Saint; nevertheless, she continues to pray, act on her duties, and seek answers rather than abandon her beliefs 212 223 228.

Ice and Storm Weapon Conjuration
When separated from her usual weapon, Vana can condense moisture and storm power into temporary weapons.
- Creates ice blades and ice greatswords from the surrounding environment 335 415
- Can infuse an ice weapon with enough force and heat for it to take on a plasma-like edge 336
- Uses her storm power to endure harsh environments, including the heat of Tarquin’s desert 614
- Conjured weapons are disposable and may shatter after a powerful strike 336
Divine Arts and Healing
Although known primarily for combat, Vana’s divine-art specialty is healing.

- Can invoke protective power against deadly heat, ash, and other hostile environments 212
- Learned healing through repeatedly treating injuries sustained during training 771

- Uses ordinary municipal records—such as taxes, utilities, patrols, and population figures—to identify supernatural inconsistencies 171
- Identified missing historical records and concluded that Pland’s history was being polluted 157 195
- Recognizes cognitive dissonance and subconscious denial as dangers associated with anomalies 49
- Resisted Duncan’s initial dreamscape intrusion, tested her own lucidity, and immediately reported the contamination to Bishop Valentine 168 169
Listener of Anomaly 004
As a Saint, Vana can serve as a Listener for the Tomb of the Nameless King.
- Was repeatedly selected to enter Anomaly 004 and record messages from its master 105 258 470
- Returns with reliable written intelligence despite memory erasure affecting her time in the tomb chamber 105 106
- Brought back reports identifying Pland, Frost, the Lost Homeland, and the Lost Fleet as unnumbered anomalies 259 471
- The mausoleum guard identifies her as an Emissary of the Flame Usurper rather than an Emissary of the Leviathan Queen 470
Subspace Blessing
Vana’s survival is tied to subspace, a fact that causes both spiritual uncertainty and unusual resilience.
- Survived the great fire despite having died in the original history 212 218
- Her connection with Duncan initially manifested as mental pollution affecting her dreamscape but not her physical actions 169
- Reformed after her body dissipated while fighting a Sun Offspring, using the power of Tarquin’s ancient star 642
- The full nature and consequences of her subspace blessing remain unresolved 223 228
