Lin Shen held the miraculous "Myriad Phenomena Heavenly Mechanism Box," yet he could not feel happy at all.
That feeling had returned.
It was as if an invisible thread connected one end to his heart and stretched the other toward the distant horizon.
Now, someone was gently but continuously tugging at that thread, sending waves of unsettling palpitations through him.
This was not physical discomfort.
It was a suffocating oppression and irritation that came from the depths of his soul.
He felt as though the entire Primordial World had been veiled in a layer of gray gauze.
Even the rich Immortal Qi in the air seemed to carry a faint trace of rust.
The cries of the immortal cranes in the distance no longer sounded so clear and melodious, instead carrying a hint of agitation.
"Yiya?"
Lin Shen raised his head blankly and looked at his Second Master, Yuanshi Tianzun, who was holding him.
He wanted to ask, Second Master, do you feel it too?
Did something happen outside?
But all that came out were meaningless single syllables.
Yuanshi Tianzun was still immersed in the joy of defeating his third brother in the "toy competition."
When he saw Lin Shen put down his beloved toy, he assumed the little fellow had grown tired of playing with it.
"What is it, Lin Shen?" he asked in the gentlest voice. "Don't you like this transformation anymore? Then Second Master will change it into something else for you."
As he spoke, he was about to activate the Heavenly Mechanism Box again.
But Lin Shen shook his head.
His tiny body squirmed in Yuanshi Tianzun's arms as he stretched out a chubby little finger and pointed beyond Kunlun Mountain, toward the boundless sky.
"Yiya... ya..."
There was a trace of anxiety and grievance in his voice.
Outside, there's something outside making me uncomfortable.
Yuanshi Tianzun followed the direction of his finger. Divine light flowed through his eyes as his gaze swept across thousands of miles of mountains and rivers.
Within the borders of Kunlun Mountain, Immortal Qi still lingered, and everything remained peaceful and tranquil.
Beyond the mountain, the Primordial Land was likewise magnificent, with abundant spiritual energy.
Everything was normal.
"There's nothing outside." Yuanshi Tianzun withdrew his gaze in confusion. "Do you want to go out and play? Shall I have Ink Qilin take you for a ride later?"
When Lin Shen saw that his Second Master had not understood him, his little face turned red with anxiety.
He struggled out of Yuanshi Tianzun's arms and slid to the ground.
His little legs carried him to the entrance of the palace.
He pointed outside, then turned back to look at his three Masters.
His tiny mouth puckered, as though he were about to burst into tears.
This time, the Three Pure Ones all realized something was wrong.
Tongtian Jiaozhu was the first to rush over.
He scooped Lin Shen up and asked anxiously, "What's wrong, my beloved disciple? Who bullied you? Tell Third Master, and I'll twist his head off!"
He thought some blind fool had made his little disciple unhappy.
Taishang Laojun also walked over slowly.
He reached out and gently placed a hand on Lin Shen's wrist. A stream of mild magical power entered Lin Shen's body and carefully examined him from head to toe.
"His body is unharmed, his primordial spirit is stable, and his magical power is abundant... There is nothing amiss."
Taishang Laojun was equally puzzled.
Since there was nothing wrong with his body, why did the little disciple look so miserable?
"Second Brother, could it be that your lousy box isn't fun?"
Tongtian Jiaozhu immediately found a target to attack.
"I told you, how could a pitch-black lump of stone be more fun than my playground? Look, you've bored the disciple into misery!"
"Nonsense!"
Yuanshi Tianzun immediately retorted.
"Lin Shen was clearly having a wonderful time just now! I think it was your sword-qi swing that made him dizzy!"
"My swing is stabilized by an array. How could it possibly make him dizzy?"
"Your array is crude beyond measure and full of holes!"
Seeing the two about to start arguing again over their differing "child-rearing philosophies,"
Taishang Laojun shook his head helplessly.
"Stop arguing."
He looked at Lin Shen, who was still in Tongtian's arms, still pointing outside with an unhappy expression, and fell into deep thought.
Lin Shen had taken form from a congenital ginseng spirit root.
His true body shared the same origin as the vegetation of heaven and earth, giving him a sensitivity to life force, deathly energy, peace, baleful energy, and similar auras far beyond that of ordinary beings.
Could he be like this because... he had sensed that something bad was happening beyond Kunlun Mountain?
Taishang Laojun's heart stirred, and he extended his divine sense once more.
This time, he did not merely observe the surface. Instead, he delved into the level of the laws governing the Primordial World.
His divine sense spread like spilled mercury, instantly covering the entire Primordial Land.
Above the Eastern Sea, the waves still rolled.
In the depths of the Northern Abyss, the cold remained unchanged.
At the Southern Bright Volcano, flames blazed fiercely.
But...
Taishang Laojun's brows slowly furrowed.
He sensed streams of dense, violent baleful energy, filled with the desire for destruction, continuously gathering and rising from every corner of the Primordial Land.
This baleful energy came from the struggles and deaths of living beings.
It polluted the spiritual energy and corroded the laws, filling heaven and earth with the oppressive feeling of a storm about to break.
Though this baleful energy posed no threat to beings at their level,
to the balance of the entire Primordial World, it was like a festering poisonous sore.
Especially in the direction of the Western Continent.
The baleful energy there was the densest, having nearly turned into black clouds visible to the naked eye as they shrouded the skies above Mount Sumeru.
"So that's it."
Taishang Laojun withdrew his divine sense, understanding flashing through his eyes.
"First Brother, what is it? What did you find?"
Yuanshi and Tongtian immediately gathered around him.
Taishang Laojun glanced at the still-unhappy Lin Shen in Tongtian's arms.
He sighed and slowly said, "A calamity is about to begin."
"A calamity?"
Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian Jiaozhu were both shaken.
Naturally, they knew that heaven and earth waxed and waned in their endless cycles.
A calamity was a means by which the Heavenly Dao balanced the number of beings in the Primordial World and cleansed the accumulated karma of heaven and earth.
After Pangu's Creation of the World, the ferocious beast race ravaged the Primordial World. That had been the first calamity.
Although the Ferocious Beast Dynasty had now fallen, the myriad races of the Primordial World had multiplied to a terrifying extent after countless epochs of recovery and growth.
The Dragon Clan dominated the four seas, the Phoenix Clan ruled over winged creatures, and the Qilin Clan governed the beasts of the land.
The three clans possessed immense power, and their constant friction had long built up deep resentment.
A great war that would sweep across the entire Primordial World was already poised to erupt.
"Lin Shen is innately close to the Great Dao and feels as one with heaven and earth,"
Taishang Laojun explained.
"He sensed the gathering baleful energy between heaven and earth, and it displeased him. That is why he is like this."
So that was what it was!
Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian Jiaozhu suddenly understood.
They looked at Lin Shen again, their eyes filled with affection and heartache.
He was so young, yet he was already "worrying" over the safety of the entire Primordial World.
It truly was hard on him.
Tongtian Jiaozhu was especially heartbroken.
Holding Lin Shen, he kissed his chubby little cheek.
He declared grandly, "Beloved Disciple, don't be sad! Isn't it just a fight? Once they start fighting, Third Master will go help you beat up every one of those disobedient fellows! Let's see if they dare make you unhappy again!"
"Third Brother, do not speak nonsense!"
Yuanshi Tianzun immediately rebuked him.
"A calamity is the great trend of the Heavenly Dao. How can we interfere at will? If we become entangled in boundless karma, it will harm our cultivation!"
"Then what should we do? Just watch the disciple suffer?"
Tongtian Jiaozhu retorted indignantly.
"I don't care about any grand trend of the Heavenly Dao. Whoever makes my disciple unhappy is my enemy!"
"You..."
"Enough."
Taishang Laojun once again stopped his two younger brothers from arguing.
Seeing the worry in Lin Shen's clear, bright eyes, his heart softened, and he made a decision.
"Since Lin Shen feels uneasy, we cannot simply stand by."
"How about this? Let us go out and take a look."
"We will not interfere with the calamity. We will merely observe."
"While we are at it, we can let Lin Shen see for himself what this Primordial World is truly like."
"Perhaps once he understands the cause of it all, he will feel better."
This suggestion left Yuanshi Tianzun and Tongtian Jiaozhu stunned.
They were going to take Lin Shen... out of Kunlun Mountain?
To face the coming bloodshed and storms?
Wasn't that... too dangerous?
But when Lin Shen heard his First Master's words, his eyes lit up.
Go out and take a look?
Yes, yes!
He had no real understanding of this so-called "calamity."
But he knew that the frustration in his heart was surely related to what was happening outside.
Rather than staying here and making blind guesses, he might as well see it for himself.
Besides, as a transmigrator with an adult soul, he had long been stifled from being confined every day in Kunlun Mountain, this "elite kindergarten."
He had been yearning to see the real Primordial World for himself!
He immediately clapped his little hands excitedly in Tongtian Jiaozhu's arms.
His "yiya yiya" cries continued without pause, showing that he agreed ten thousand times over.
Seeing Lin Shen so eager that he could hardly wait,
Yuanshi Tianzun could not voice any more objections, no matter how worried he was.
So be it. With the three brothers present, however vast the Primordial World might be, where could they not go?
Protecting one little disciple would be more than easy.
"Everything will be arranged by First Brother."
Yuanshi Tianzun finally nodded in agreement.
Tongtian Jiaozhu had already been unable to wait any longer.
Laughing loudly, he said, "Excellent! Let's set out at once! I want to see which blind fool dares cause trouble on my territory!"
Thus, Lin Shen's first true journey since transmigrating was about to begin.
