History of the Uchiha Clan

Seeing how curious his two sons, Uchiha Sasuke and Uchiha Itachi, were about the history of the past, Fugaku could no longer put them off. He patiently began explaining it to them.

"To talk about Konoha's history, we must first go back to the time before Konoha was founded." Fugaku Uchiha began telling Sasuke and Itachi the story.

Uchiha Sasuke and Uchiha Itachi sat properly and listened patiently.

"Before the ninja villages were established, that era was known as the Warring States Period. The Warring States Period lasted for a very long time, and every clan fought for itself."

"Clans you know well, such as the Uchiha Clan, the Senju Clan, the Uzumaki Clan, the Nara Clan, and the Hyuga Clan. These great Konoha clans were originally enemies during the Warring States Period. For their own interests, they could be cooperating one moment and stabbing each other in the back the next."

"The various ninja clans worked for anyone willing to pay a high price, carrying out assassination and extermination missions. Back then, ninjas could not even casually reveal their surnames if they wanted to survive. Even young children had to fight desperately on the battlefield, drastically lowering average lifespans. The average lifespan of both ninjas and civilians was only around thirty years."

"It was in such an environment that Hashirama Senju of the Senju Clan and Uchiha Madara of our Uchiha Clan were born."

"The Senju Clan and our Uchiha Clan were the two strongest ninja groups, so the two clans generally acted in opposition—when someone hired the Senju, the other side would hire the Uchiha, who could contend with them."

"Under Tajima Uchiha's leadership, the Uchiha Clan joined forces with the Hagoromo Clan to fight the Senju Clan. The three great clans went through countless battles, causing most of Madara's brothers to perish. Only his younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, remained, and Madara silently vowed to protect his only remaining brother."

"Several years later, the Hagoromo Clan was discarded by their employers after failing to complete the mission of exterminating the Senju Clan. From then on, the Uchiha Clan fought the Senju Clan alone."

"But fate was always so unpredictable. Two clans that had originally been mortal enemies produced two exceptions: Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara."

"To ease his mood, Uchiha Madara went to the river to skip stones. Hashirama Senju also came to the river and became Madara's opponent in skipping stones. Since they could not reveal their surnames, they only told each other their given names. From the way Madara threw stones, Hashirama also realized that Madara was a ninja.

"At that moment, Hashirama Senju discovered the corpse of a Hagoromo Clan member in the river, so he hurried home because the place would soon become a battlefield."

"After returning home, Hashirama Senju questioned things due to the death of his younger brother, Kawama Senju, and was beaten by his father, Butsuma Senju. When Hashirama insisted that this was absolutely wrong and Butsuma prepared to beat him again, Tobirama Senju stopped him in time."

"Afterward, Tobirama Senju told Hashirama Senju that only by signing an agreement and forming an alliance could they avoid this endless war."

"But reality was cruel. Before long, Tobirama Senju's other younger brother, Itama Senju, also died at the hands of the Uchiha Clan."

"Overcome with grief, Hashirama Senju returned to the river. Uchiha Madara also came there, and the two came to understand each other's pain."

"Uchiha Madara felt that the only way to stop deaths on both sides was for them to speak openly and honestly, but he believed it impossible because of people's hearts. The two felt that, if they wanted the adults to accept their ideas, they had to become stronger themselves, so they began sparring with each other every day."

"They competed to climb to the mountaintop. There, Hashirama Senju proposed building a village to protect the children, establishing a school where children could train and undertake missions, and setting ranks so children could stay away from war. Uchiha Madara also felt that this would better protect his younger brother."

"During this time, their daily outings aroused the suspicions of both fathers. Butsuma Senju therefore ordered Tobirama Senju to secretly monitor Hashirama Senju's meetings with Uchiha Madara and, after confirming the matter, ordered Hashirama to kill Madara."

"To prevent any accidents, Butsuma Senju and Tobirama Senju secretly followed Hashirama Senju, while Izuna Uchiha's father, Tajima Uchiha, likewise planned to use this opportunity to kill Hashirama Senju."

"The fathers of both sides led their second sons in secretly setting an ambush, prepared to kill the eldest sons of the other side."

"But Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara did not want to fight. They used skipped stones to warn each other and withdrew. Then Butsuma Senju led Tobirama Senju in charging toward the opposite bank. Izuna Uchiha also ran toward the opposite bank with his father, Tajima Uchiha."

"At that point, the four confronted one another. While Tobirama Senju and Izuna Uchiha fought, Butsuma Senju and Tajima Uchiha leaped into the air and hurled a ninja sword and kunai at them, intending to kill the other side's children."

"Fortunately, Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara blocked the attack with stones in time. Afterward, Madara and Hashirama stood before their younger brothers, both declaring that they would not allow anyone to hurt them."

"Uchiha Madara's desire to protect his younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, caused him to awaken the Sharingan for the first time. Afterward, Uchiha Madara declared that he would sever the bond between himself and Hashirama Senju."

"When his father, Tajima Uchiha, asked whether he was confident of winning if they fought now, Uchiha Madara told him that Hashirama Senju was stronger than him at present. Tajima Uchiha therefore judged that the situation was unfavorable and led his two sons away, while the Senju side also retreated. Uchiha Madara's actions deeply wounded Hashirama Senju."

"After that, Uchiha Madara and Hashirama Senju became enemies. Day after day, year after year, they fought each other alongside their respective clans."

"As time passed, after Tajima Uchiha's death, Uchiha Madara succeeded his father as the leader of the Uchiha Clan. His younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, served as Madara's trusted aide."

"During the age of war, under Uchiha Madara's leadership, the Uchiha Clan fought countless battles against Senju Clan ninjas. Izuna Uchiha was a powerful warrior on the front lines, earning many military achievements for the Uchiha Clan and being hailed as a formidable enemy with 'no openings.'"

"The two great clans went through countless battles, but neither could gain the upper hand. Then, during one battle, Tobirama Senju seized the instant Izuna Uchiha thought he had succeeded and used Flying Thunder God Slash with a katana, piercing Izuna Uchiha's body in a single strike at lightning speed."

"Uchiha Madara rushed toward the severely wounded Izuna Uchiha. Izuna had been heavily injured by Tobirama Senju because of his carelessness. When Hashirama Senju spoke to Madara of his hope for the two clans to cooperate, Madara's younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, strongly opposed it."

"Uchiha Madara therefore rejected Hashirama Senju's proposal, then retreated with his younger brother, Izuna Uchiha. The Uchiha Clan ninjas present also laid down their weapons and surrendered to Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju."

"In that battle, Tobirama Senju turned the evenly matched conflict between the two great clans into a situation where the Uchiha Clan was outnumbered, laying the foundation for the Senju Clan's victory."

"Because Uchiha Madara's younger brother, Izuna Uchiha, was too severely injured, he could not be healed. Before his death, he gave his eyes to his brother, allowing Uchiha Madara to inherit his power and protect the Uchiha. As a result, Uchiha Madara awakened the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan."

Sasuke and Itachi had been listening with great interest, but when they heard a term they had never heard before, they frowned in confusion.

Sasuke was the one who asked, "Father, what is the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan? How come I've never heard of it?"

Fugaku Uchiha seemed not to have expected that he had accidentally revealed something highly confidential. Most members of the Uchiha Clan now knew nothing about it; only the clan heads of each generation passed this matter down through the generations. Since he had already let it slip, he might as well explain it.

"You both know that our Uchiha Clan's Sharingan has the Single Tomoe, Double Tomoe, and Three Tomoe forms, right?"

Sasuke and Itachi both nodded.

"But above those is the Mangekyō Sharingan. It is an eye that can only be awakened after experiencing enormous emotional upheaval. The increase in strength it grants our Uchiha Clan is far greater than that of the Three Tomoe Sharingan."

"At the same time, the Mangekyō Sharingan carries different Dojutsu. But using Dojutsu consumes Eye Power. If too much Eye Power is consumed, one's vision will deteriorate, eventually resulting in complete blindness."

"Later, clan members discovered that this was a Dojutsu that could only be awakened by transplanting another person's Mangekyō Sharingan. Even then, success was not guaranteed. The closer the blood relation between the two people, the higher the success rate."

"After evolving into the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, using Dojutsu consumes less Eye Power, and the Eye Power that is consumed slowly recovers over time."

"You must understand that in our Uchiha Clan, members who awaken the Three Tomoe Sharingan are already considered geniuses. The conditions for awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan are even more demanding and require greater talent. As for the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, it requires merging the Mangekyō Sharingan of a close relative on top of that."

"It is precisely because of these complicated requirements that many clan members went through their lives filled with regret, unable to awaken even the Mangekyō Sharingan, much less the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. As time passed, clan members gradually forgot about the Mangekyō Sharingan, and more people came to regard it as nothing more than a legend."

"Only the head of each generation passes down such knowledge, preventing the Mangekyō Sharingan from truly becoming history and leaving behind detailed information for the clan. That way, if a particularly gifted clan member awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan someday, they will not be completely ignorant of it."

After Fugaku Uchiha's explanation, Uchiha Itachi and Sasuke came to understand the Mangekyō Sharingan and the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
