Chimei and Wangliang were difficult to spot elsewhere, but in an infested zone, Evil Spirits could brazenly roam the main roads, and any living creature that drew near would fall prey to their poisonous claws.

Later, the Bureaus of Military Affairs of various states devoted enormous manpower and resources to clearing some of the infested areas around battlefields and cities. Even today, however, several such zones remained on the continent, especially in Xu State, the main battlefield.

Evil Spirits possessed no will of their own. Everything they did arose from instinct.

And since they were all formed from qi and Ji, they would sometimes devour one another.
