Ruler of the Far North

Ice Empress leads the Ice Jade Scorpion clan and cultivates at Jade Ice Lake, a spiritually rich valley where ordinary soul beasts do not dare trespass. Snow Empress has repeatedly helped her withstand Heavenly Tribulations, making her next tribulation a concern for both rulers 30 32 33.

Tens of thousands of years before meeting Huo Yuhao, she encountered Di Tian when he came to conquer the Far North’s soul beasts and gather their faith. She also knew the future Frost Goddess, who helped both Ice and Snow Empress undergo a tribulation ahead of time and promised to protect the region’s soul beasts after becoming a god 33 166.

Meeting Huo Yuhao

Tian Meng brings Huo Yuhao to Jade Ice Lake while pursuing a plan to make Ice Empress his second Martial Soul. She responds violently to Tian Meng’s arrival and attacks the unfamiliar human. Their confrontation reveals Huo Yuhao’s spiritual abilities, while his knowledge of private matters—including Snow Empress’s adopted ice bear, Xiao Bai—makes her question his identity 31 32.

Huo Yuhao claims to come from ten thousand years in the future. He manipulates her concern for Snow Empress by describing a tragedy in which Snow Empress is injured helping her, rebuilds herself, and is captured by humans. Ice Empress questions the inconsistencies in his account, but becomes increasingly receptive when Snow Empress’s safety is involved 33.

She eventually accepts the Snow-Colored Swan Kiss in exchange for helping capture a Ten Thousand Year Ninth Grade Ginseng King. The herb triggers her 400,000-year tribulation; she endures it determined not to burden Snow Empress again. Afterward, she joins the journey south and helps capture Zi Ling with the two empresses’ combined domain. She does not become Huo Yuhao’s second Martial Soul 34 35 37 39 43.

Protecting the Rebuilt Snow Empress

When Huo Yuhao returns with an urgent warning, Ice Empress takes him to Snow Empress’s Storm Domain. They discover Snow Empress undergoing re-cultivation and wait seven days for her to emerge. Ice Empress is distressed by her lost memories and dependence on Huo Yuhao 93 94.

In Winter City, her sensitivity and Huo Yuhao’s Mental Detection locate the Ten Thousand Year Profound Ice Cave. She cultivates there and collects ice marrow for Snow Empress’s recovery. Although initially determined to take Snow Empress home, she agrees to travel south with Huo Yuhao to protect her, temporarily leaving A Tai in command of the Far North 95 96.

Her travels bring her into the human world and the Star Dou Great Forest. She fights Scarlet King, then joins Snow Empress in confronting Di Tian when he threatens Huo Yuhao. Later, she remains beside the recovering Snow Empress and informs Huo Yuhao about the mysterious Frost Goddess inheritance temple 98 109 111 165 166.

Divine Trial and Heart Tribulation

Huo Yuhao’s relationship with Snow Empress leaves Ice Empress hurt and resentful. She turns to cultivation after their relationship is announced, intending to make him pay during his anticipated trial against her 281.

Appointed chief examiner for the Fifth Frost God Trial, she is instructed to fight Huo Yuhao for the duration of an incense stick. The promised reward is 10,000 years of cultivation, conditional on not deliberately holding back. During the duel, however, she limits Ice Empress’s Wrath to thirty percent of her power because she fears seriously injuring him 286 287 288.

At Qiankun Love Question Valley, she undergoes a Heart Tribulation that revisits her past, including her decision to leave the Far North with Huo Yuhao. She tears through the illusion with frost power and emerges with greater clarity about her feelings 344 346.

Defending the Far North

As the Abyss threat approaches, Ice Empress and Snow Empress return home to defend the northern border. Together with Zi Ling, they discover an Abyss Rift at Snow Dragon Spine Mountain. Unable to seal it, they guard the area against further infiltration 353 389.

When Qian Renxue arrives disguised as Xue Qinghe and proposes cooperation, the two empresses respond coldly and decline. Ice Empress later continues caring for Snow Empress during Huo Yuhao’s prolonged absence 390 417.

Re-cultivation and Declaration

Ice Empress eventually decides to rebuild herself to separate her present life from the past. Unable to find another Ten Thousand Year Snow Lotus, she asks Zi Ling for help despite having passed the normal re-cultivation threshold. Zi Ling’s blood ritual transforms her, while Huo Yuhao arrives to guard the process 482.

Afterward, she openly confesses her feelings. Huo Yuhao promises to marry her if she remains certain after exploring the human world, and teaches her his newly developed cultivation system 482 483.

She travels with Zi Ling, first across Douluo Continent and then to the Sun Moon Continent. Familiar faces and Huo Yuhao’s extensive influence make it difficult to find genuine challenges at home.
