Madam—those two words carried an inexplicable allure.
But the name Money Cat was quite famous in Blackstone Town.
Or rather, it was far too famous among men.
While eating at taverns, he often heard people talking about which girl at Money Cat was fair-skinned, what new dance performances they had, and the like.
Unlike ordinary brothels, Money Cat did not rely on selling flesh for business. It was an entertainment venue that offered song and dance performances.
By Wu Heng's understanding, it was basically a borderline strip show.
But he had only heard a little about it. He had not expected the owner behind it to be a woman, much less someone from the Adventurer's Guild.
"Which team is she on?" Wu Heng continued asking.
Cavina continued, "She is the Vice Deacon of Blackstone Town and does not belong to any team."
A Vice Deacon. That was no small amount of authority.
Given enough time, it would probably be impossible to avoid dealing with her. It would be best to maintain a good relationship and not let her remember any scandals about him.
The two chatted a little more about the owner behind Money Cat.
Captain Ortluk then continued, "Let me tell you about the teams in Blackstone Town."
"Alright."
"Besides ours, which was just established, there were originally three teams. First Squad was founded first. Its captain is Arnel, a warrior. The captain of Second Squad is the warlock Tulisa, while the captain of Team Three is the ranger Nacho. Their teams were established early, and each already has five members."
As Wu Heng listened, he learned that there were three teams, and every one of them was fully staffed.
It was only because Fourth Squad had been newly formed that he had been recruited.
He had become a member of the Adventurer's Guild.
As for the names of those three captains, he forgot them as soon as he heard them.
The only one who left a deep impression on him was Madam Slyther of Money Cat.
"Alright, just get a rough idea for now. You'll become familiar with them over time," the captain said from the side.
"Mm!"
By the time the train returned to Blackstone Town, dusk was approaching.
At the station, Blackstone Town guards took custody of Archido and the others, as well as the Clay Pot filled with necromantic aura.
At this point, the Adventurer Team's mission was considered complete.
The rest would be handled by Blackstone Town.
Captain Ortluk spoke quietly with Plamon for a few moments before they split up to report back to the Adventurer's Guild.
Wu Heng and Cavina could return home first. They would be notified if anything came up.
After saying goodbye to the two, Wu Heng headed toward his residence.
The Adventurer Team's mission had not been as simple as Yazde had described.
Nine people from the Investigation Team had gone in total. Three had died, and the rest had all suffered some injuries.
If they had not confirmed that one of them was Archido's butler, they likely would have found it difficult to obtain any solid evidence linking the matter to Archido.
Otherwise, who knew how many more people that Clay Pot of Necromantic Magic would have harmed.
Dark Magic really was terrifying.
No wonder people were so hostile toward Necromancers. It was not undeserved at all.
After returning home, he was just about to check on the Zombie World when someone knocked on the door.
"Wu Heng, are you back?!"
It was the landlord's voice.
Wu Heng opened the door. A middle-aged man with rough skin and a beard longer than his hair stood outside. "Mr. Rudger."
Rudger was the owner of this house—his landlord.
"Mm. Wu Heng, did you get yourself into some kind of trouble?" Rudger strode into the room and asked directly.
Wu Heng frowned, recalling the Wanted Criminal's accomplice who had escaped.
"Did something happen?" he asked.
"I should be asking you that. Why have guards been coming here so often these past few days? I only rented this place to you because you seemed like a decent person. You can't bring trouble to my door." The landlord sat down at the table.
His gaze then swept over the figure beside him wearing a round helmet. He frowned and added, "Also, I only rented this house to you. Don't just bring anyone in here."
Skeleton Bartholomew was wrapped up tightly, but his leather armor still bore marks left by Crossbow Bolts.
Combined with that strange round helmet, he did not look like an ordinary resident at all.
Wu Heng immediately understood what the man meant.
Over the past few days, guards and the Adventurer Team had been coming here frequently, making the landlord feel that something was off.
After all, he was only renting out a house. No one wanted to get into trouble.
Fortunately, he did not know Wu Heng had killed someone here. Otherwise, he would probably have thrown him out already.
"It's a misunderstanding. I joined an Adventurer Team. Yesterday, I was helping the city defense guards investigate something. I haven't done anything bad."
As he spoke, he took out the bronze insignia given to him by the Adventurer's Guild.
The landlord was first stunned, then surprised, before immediately breaking into a smile.
"I knew you had potential. I've always had a good eye."
The landlord's attitude changed at once.
He no longer spoke about Wu Heng causing trouble. Instead, he praised him for being capable and having a bright future.
He even enthusiastically offered to introduce him to someone.
He named three or four possible matches: some family's daughter, a widow from some street, and so on.
But Wu Heng only listened without paying much attention.
A Field Emissary of the Adventurer's Guild did not actually have much law enforcement authority, but ordinary people still saw them as somewhat special.
Wu Heng chatted with him for a while and assured him that he would not cause any trouble.
The landlord laughed heartily, instead believing that Wu Heng living here would greatly improve the security of the neighborhood.
Not long after, the landlord left.
Wu Heng checked on the Zombie World, took out some goods, and had Skeleton Bartholomew carry them before leaving the house.
Adventurer's Guild, meeting room.
Four people sat on either side of the long, narrow conference table.
There were four teams in the Blackstone Town Adventurer's Guild. Ortluk had just returned and had been called in to attend the meeting.
The Deacon had not arrived yet, so everyone was relatively relaxed.
Team One Captain spoke first. "Ortluk, I heard your team recruited a Necromancer?"
"Mm. We were short-handed, so we recruited a newcomer," Ortluk answered calmly.
The captain of Team Three said, "I know about this. The Deacon personally recruited him and wanted to assign him to our team..."
He did not continue, but the meaning was already obvious.
Team Three had not wanted him, so he had been assigned to Fourth Squad.
The female captain of Second Squad glanced at Ortluk and said, "Use him while you're short-handed. You can talk about the rest later."
Team One Captain continued asking, "Yesterday was your first mission, right? How did he perform?"
"He performed very well. It was beyond my expectations."
"Haha, stop putting on a brave face. He only changed classes a few days ago. It'd be good enough if he wasn't dead weight," the captain of Team Three said, not believing him in the slightest.
Ortluk said nothing.
The others merely smiled and did not continue discussing the matter.
At that moment, the door opened.
Deacon Yazde, leaning on a wooden staff, walked in and took a seat at the head of the table.
He said directly, "Fourth Squad performed exceptionally well in the investigation of Mining Village, especially team member Wu Heng, who received praise from the Town Hall. Due to incorrect intelligence from Blackstone Town, the reward for Ortluk's team will be doubled, with an additional intermediate item as a reward."
The moment these words were spoken, every captain was stunned.
The Town Hall had praised a Necromancer?
What had he done?
