Once he had settled on a target.
Wu Heng had someone bring over the weapons and armor from the three Wanted Criminals from yesterday, along with ten Iron Spears.
They were neatly laid out before him.
There were two types of weapons in total.
A pair of short swords, two One-Handed Long Swords, and five Poison Smoke Grenades.
Apparently, Wanted Criminals all liked carrying Poison Smoke Grenades. He had no idea why they had not used them during the fight.
No, it was not that they had not wanted to use them.
Even if they had thrown the Poison Smoke Grenades, it would have affected their own side. Skeletons were barely affected.
His gaze returned to the weapons.
Both the short swords and longswords were well-made. They were not exceptional, but they were far better than the ordinary Iron Swords Wu Heng had bought for three Silver Coins each.
He kept the pair of short swords for self-defense and gave the remaining two longswords to two Skeletons.
They were better than ordinary Iron Swords, but only relatively speaking. Once he truly had to fight with a sword himself, he would spend some money on something finer.
After distributing the weapons, there were the three sets of armor.
The armor was in rather poor condition. The Skeleton Warriors had hacked their wearers to death, leaving plenty of scratches.
It did not matter. The armor was for the Skeleton Warriors anyway. Any extra defense was better than none.
After putting the armor on three spear-wielding Skeletons.
He selected another ten Skeleton Warriors and equipped them with the newly purchased Iron Spears.
The number of spearmen had reached fifteen.
Once everything was ready, Wu Heng gave the order, "Follow me!"
The Skeleton Army followed him downstairs and out of the building.
The Zombies downstairs had already been cleared out several times. After an entire night, no new Zombies had wandered over.
After confirming there was nothing unusual around them, they headed toward the North Gate.
After passing two buildings, they were already near the North Gate.
Through the gaps in the iron fence, they could see what lay outside.
A few Zombies wandered along the road. There did not seem to be many, but altogether there were twenty or thirty.
This was the road the survivors' bus had forced its way through.
However, the bus had not overturned here, and the Zombies along the route had been drawn toward the intersection on the East Side.
That was probably why there were not many Zombies here.
"You lot, move near the gate and stand by," Wu Heng said.
The fifteen spear-wielding Skeletons scattered forward and stood at the Main Gate, bracing themselves on their Iron Spears.
In the distance, the Zombies noticed the movement here.
When the first Zombie roared and charged toward them, it set off a chain reaction. Nearby Zombies began roaring one after another, and the sound instantly spread across the entire street.
Every Zombie turned in unison toward the residential compound's Main Gate, then charged over with claws bared.
"Crouch! Weapons forward!"
Wu Heng quickly adjusted the positions of two Skeletons and continued issuing orders.
Clatter!
The Skeletons crouched, their Iron Spears aimed forward.
Roar! Roar!
Dozens of Zombies charged forward, pouncing toward the Skeleton Squad.
As the Zombies rushed in, Wu Heng raised a hand and cast Grease Spell.
The air became viscous, forming a patch of grease three or four meters wide that coated the ground.
Thud, thud, thud!!
In an instant, the Zombies lost their footing and fell flat on their backs. The Zombies behind them continued charging forward, and soon they were all piled together.
The defining feature of Grease Spell was that it created a patch of Difficult Terrain.
It was like spreading a layer of oil across tiled flooring.
In the blink of an eye, the charging Zombies fell in heaps, rolling across the ground like overturned gourds.
After the brief chaos, some Zombies stepped over their companions' bodies and rushed forward, slamming straight into the outstretched Iron Spears.
Pfft!
The sharp Iron Spear pierced through a Zombie's chest, and thick black-red blood flowed out.
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!!
The spear-wielding Skeletons began thrusting their Iron Spears repeatedly, attacking the charging Zombies.
Experience gained +6. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, experience +3. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, experience +5. Summoned Creature... Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, level increased to 2. Strength +1.
The notifications for gained experience began increasing, still accumulating on the spear-wielding Skeletons.
The newly added level-one Skeleton Warriors began reaching level two one after another.
The Skeletons already at level two were also rapidly accumulating experience.
Grease Spell lasted for roughly two or three minutes before evaporating into the air.
But in the open space before the compound, a small mountain of corpses had already piled up.
To continue attacking the Skeletons, the Zombies had to climb over the corpse pile.
Gradually, there were fewer and fewer Zombies.
Only a few Zombies with broken lower limbs continued crawling toward them.
Wu Heng glanced at the empty road and said, "Go kill those Zombies."
The Skeleton Poodle eagerly leaped out of the Skeleton Horde, sprinted to the slowly crawling Zombies, bit them to death one by one, then dragged the corpses back.
Both sides of the road were lined with shops.
Most were fruit and vegetable stores or restaurants.
The food in those kinds of shops definitely would not last long. He casually checked two of them and only found a few kitchen knives and Watermelon Knives. There was nothing else useful.
After looking around, he spotted a store.
"Come with me!"
Several Skeletons followed behind him into the store ahead.
Various snacks and Instant Noodles were scattered across the floor. They had not been damaged, nor had any survivors taken them away.
The store owner had likely become one of the Zombies long ago. Wu Heng had no idea whether they had run off or died at the hands of the Skeletons.
After looking around the first floor, he found that everything there had been preserved fairly well.
Only the ice cream in the freezers had melted, sagging limply inside their wrappers.
He then led the Skeletons up to the second floor.
The second floor did not have shelves. Instead, it contained bedrooms and a storeroom.
Boxes of Instant Noodles, drinks, and snacks were stacked there.
It looked fairly promising.
"Move all of this," Wu Heng began directing them.
The Skeleton Warriors entered the store and carried the goods outside.
Wu Heng continued looking along the road, but he did not venture too far away to avoid drawing more Zombies over.
Instead, he directed the Skeletons to carry the store's snacks back to their original residence.
Then he sat by the entrance and cast Bone Manipulation Technique again.
Skeleton after Skeleton rose to its feet and joined the ranks.
Back at their original residence.
The snacks and drinks they had brought back were neatly stacked against the walls.
The store had looked small, but it contained quite a lot.
Even without Blackstone Town, these supplies would be enough to feed him for quite some time.
They said food was more precious than gold after the apocalypse.
But he had found so much food. Where was he supposed to trade it for gold? So many days had passed, and he had not encountered a single living survivor.
The only one he had seen had died while trying to escape.
After filling the second bedroom, he had the Skeletons move the rest into the living room.
He stepped out of the room and looked over his fifteen-man Spear Formation.
Because the Skeletons he had selected had already accumulated considerable experience, they had all reached level two in the recent battle.
One level-three Skeleton and fourteen level-two Skeletons.
This method actually seemed quite good. It had no drawbacks and could raise the Skeletons' levels as well.
"I can buy more Iron Spears and armor."
