Against Zombies, spears felt more useful than swords.
With swords, you at least had to slash. With spears, the Zombies ran right into them.
And spears had greater reach, making them safer.
After a flurry of thrusts, it was hard for Zombies to hold out long enough to get close.
He could buy more spears.
But he could not buy them too frequently. He would wait a couple of days.
As he considered this, the Skeleton Warriors had emptied out the supermarket.
Wu Heng also returned to Blackstone Town with Bartholomew.
After dinner.
Wu Heng stood straight, his legs shoulder-width apart, both hands gripping the sword hilt.
Sword One stood beside him, reaching out to adjust the arm holding the sword and correct some of his mistakes.
Once his posture was correct.
Sword One demonstrated the same movement beside him, gripping the sword with both hands and chopping downward.
Whoosh~!
The blade sliced through the air as it came down.
Wu Heng followed suit, raising his sword and chopping downward as well.
Sword One shook his head, indicating that the movement was wrong, then demonstrated it again.
Wu Heng watched carefully and continued learning from him.
Then Sword One led him through repeated sword grips and swings, practicing the most basic movements.
It did not look nearly as simple as gangsters chopping people up in TV dramas.
He practiced until his arms felt sore, then sent Sword One back and went to bed himself.
The next day.
Wu Heng brought the Skeletons back to the North Gate and arranged their formation.
"You stand here, with your spear pointed forward. You few, stand here..."
Unlike yesterday's encounter.
They now had time to prepare in advance.
He had the spear-wielding Skeletons line up in a spear formation before the gate.
Once the preparations were nearly complete, he glanced at Bartholomew beside him. "Go make a round up ahead. If there are any Zombies, lure them over. Be careful."
Skeleton Bartholomew nodded, squeezed out of the Skeleton Horde, and ran forward.
The Police Station was not far away, but it was still some distance.
Especially since the area ahead was a new residential complex. There might be a Zombie Horde, so they still had to be careful.
He would first have Bartholomew draw out some enemies.
Before long, Bartholomew came running back from the distance, followed by around twenty Zombies.
There were not many of them.
Bartholomew quickly returned, passing through the spear-wielding Skeletons at the front and entering the rear.
When the pursuing Zombies saw the Skeleton Horde, they all let out roars and pounced.
Pfft, pfft, pfft~!
The spears pierced the Zombies' bodies, sending filthy blood splattering.
Experience gained +6. Summoned Creature—Skeleton Warrior, experience gained +3.
The battle ended quickly.
It was easier than expected.
"There wasn't anything dangerous ahead, right?" Wu Heng asked.
Bartholomew shook his head.
"Put away the spears. Keep moving forward," Wu Heng ordered.
The Skeleton Warriors moved in unison, crossing the road and heading to the other side.
Scattered Zombies rushed in from both sides along the way and were killed one by one.
They continued onward and passed a Community Service Center.
The glass was shattered, and bloodstains covered the ground.
Wu Heng led the Skeletons inside and checked every room.
There was nothing worth looting, only monitors, documents, and similar items.
He searched around with the Backpack and found some staplers, paper, pens, and A4 sheets.
He packed them all into the Backpack and had a Skeleton carry it on its back.
They turned past the Community Service Center and entered another road.
On the narrow road, several cars had crashed into one another, blocking most of the way.
A few Zombies wandered through the gaps between the vehicles.
About five hundred meters away on the right, they could see the blue-walled, three-story Police Substation.
The Zombies that rushed out were killed, and everything went smoothly.
Wu Heng waved a hand and said, "Move along the side."
Several Skeletons with Souls spread out, directing the Skeletons to proceed along the sidewalk.
Roar~!
Just as the group was about to pass through the area filled with cars.
A Zombie trapped in the driver's seat suddenly straightened up and let out a roar.
Whoosh, whoosh~!
In an instant, two Crossbow Bolts shot out, piercing through the Zombie's head from front to back. With a bang, its head slammed into the steering wheel.
Beep—!
The piercing car horn instantly sounded, echoing through the entire residential area in the quiet surroundings.
Wu Heng's eyes widened instantly.
He had considered avoiding triggering the alarms of locked cars, but he had not expected this to happen.
The car horn continued blaring harshly.
The surrounding residential complexes seemed to boil over as chaotic sounds and wave after wave of roars rang out.
A dense mass of Zombies charged out from the residential complex opposite them and the alleys on both sides.
As they trampled over the cars, another round of alarms went off.
"Quick, follow me and charge through!" Wu Heng rapidly scanned the surroundings, gave the order, and ran forward.
Clatter, clatter, clatter!!
The Skeletons no longer moved cautiously.
They gripped their weapons and followed him, racing toward the Police Substation.
Meanwhile, Zombies from all around converged on them like a flood, their numbers astonishing.
They rushed into the Police Station.
Bartholomew and Sword One killed the Zombies inside.
"Get inside. You few, block the entrance to the main hall," Wu Heng ordered quickly.
Outside, a huge number of Zombies gathered at the courtyard gate, crowding and shoving as they charged inside.
Grease Spell.
Wu Heng cast Grease Spell, creating a slick patch beneath the Zombies' feet.
Bang, bang, bang!!
In an instant, the Zombies entering the area fell backward in waves.
The Zombies behind them crowded forward and tripped over them in another wave.
Wu Heng took out a lighter, set a piece of Scrap Cloth on fire, and tossed it into the area created by Grease Spell.
The instant the open flame touched the grease, the fire surged up with a whoosh, rising more than half a person tall and engulfing the courtyard.
The Zombies struggling to get up were swallowed by the flames.
Wu Heng retreated several steps, avoiding the Burning Sensation brought by the fire.
He was astonished by the effect of this new skill.
According to the skill description, Grease Spell created a patch of "Difficult Terrain."
That probably referred to the effect of the grease. As long as the terrain was not especially rough, it could make targets slip and fall.
It was also flammable.
He had merely wanted to test it, but he had not expected the fire to burn so fiercely.
Experience gained +6. Experience gained +6. Experience gained...
Holy shit, I can use this to farm monsters...
Even so, Zombies resembling charred corpses still rushed out of the blaze and lunged toward them.
They were covered in flames, making for a terrifying sight.
The spear-wielding Skeletons guarding the entrance began thrusting their spears, piercing and killing every target that came close.
"You guard this place. Bartholomew, bring a few Skeletons upstairs with me."
After confirming that there would be no immediate danger, Wu Heng spoke to those beside him.
Several Skeletons with Souls nodded their skulls. Bartholomew also brought several Skeletons and followed Wu Heng as they began searching the rooms one by one.
He did not know whether there would be bullets here, but there should be, right?
They opened room after room, eventually finding a locked safe in a room resembling an equipment storage room.
After praying to the gods of both worlds in his heart.
He took out the Bronze Key and opened the safe.
The safe door opened. After pulling out the key, joy appeared on Wu Heng's face.
"So many!"
The safe was neatly filled with box after box of bullets.
