When Yue Yuan arrived at the Command Center, where personnel were always on duty, he was at least spared that sense of dust being stirred up. It eased his long-dormant heart considerably.
In fact, work could be done anywhere aboard the Lyra. Wherever Yue Yuan was could serve as the captain's office. But to conserve energy, that function had been disabled, and personnel on duty could only work in the Command Center.
This time, Yue Yuan would probably remain awake and work for ten thousand years before entering long-term hibernation again. He would wake another million years later, repeating the cycle until they reached their destination.
After arriving at the Command Center, however, Yue Yuan did not immediately get to work. Instead, he sat upright in the captain's chair and connected himself to the Thinking Training Center to train his mind.
A million years of sleep had left his thoughts sluggish. He needed a period of training to make his mind active again and restore the electrical signals in every neuron of his brain to their former state. Only then would he be fit to oversee their work.
Originally, those living aboard the Lyra had not needed to do this, because the ship had a Dream Machine from the Awakener Civilization. The Dream Machine could help those in hibernation keep their minds active, preventing their souls from rusting during their long sleep.
Unfortunately, recently-or rather, ever since they began this new voyage-the Awakeners had all entered long-term sleep. No Awakener had come to help humanity maintain the Dream Machine for a very long time, so they could only follow the old schedule and wake once every million years.
Still, this was no great problem. Once they reached their new destination, someone among the Awakeners would help humanity maintain the Dream
