  • Eichi reset the trap and captured a Caterpie with a Poké Ball.
  • Eichi released Caterpie to examine it, but soon frowned.

Ch. 3Mutation and the Elf Egg

  • Eichi released an old, weak Caterpie and spent the day failing to catch a Pokémon he wanted.
  • Eichi’s eyes grew painfully itchy, then he saw green energy leading into a dense patch of brush.
  • Eichi followed the energy and found a Pokémon Egg with orange and brown ring patterns, then carried it home.
  • Eichi showed the Egg to his father, who suggested asking Aunt Keiko at the Breeding House for an Incubator.
  • Eichi fell asleep holding the Egg, and cyan light flowed from his body into it without his knowledge.

Ch. 4Hatching

Eichi took the Pokémon Egg he had found to Aunt Keiko’s Breeding House, where she placed it in an Incubator. The next day, the Egg began to shake and glowed brightly, signaling that it was about to hatch.

  • At school, Eichi told Aji he had found a Pokémon Egg, while Aji revealed that his first Pokémon was a Mankey.
  • Eichi traveled to Tokiwa City and asked Aunt Keiko to lend him an Incubator for the Egg.
  • Keiko explained she could not lend out the Breeding House’s Incubators, but offered to help hatch the Egg there.

  • Eichi taught Weedle to stay inside its Poké Ball while he was at school, then learned that Aji thought his Mankey was stronger than Weedle.
  • After school, Eichi took Weedle to the Small Woods and had it run three laps before giving it honey water to rest.
  • Eichi tested Weedle's String Shot, Bug Bite, and Poison Sting, recording the moves' range, uses, and power.
  • Eichi continued Weedle's move practice and had it run another lap, then took the exhausted Pokémon home for food, a bath, and a massage.
  • Eichi concluded that Weedle had the Compound Eyes Ability and went to bed; after he fell asleep, cyan energy flowed into Weedle's body.

Ch. 7First Battle

  • Eichi reminded the Bug Catchers to train their Pokémon properly and not visit Viridian Forest every day before they went home.
  • Weedle ate extra food at Eichi’s house, evolved into Metapod, and Eichi began calling it by its new name.

Ch. 18Making Up One’s Mind

Eichi considered his future while Metapod waited to evolve, then told Teacher Arno that he wanted to attend Silver Academy and become the first Bug-type Elite Four. Teacher Arno admired his determination but doubted that someone with Eichi’s limited resources could reach that level.

  • Eichi measured Metapod and found it was larger and heavier than an ordinary Metapod, then worried about how long its evolution would take.
  • Eichi weighed his academy options and decided to ask Teacher Arno which school specialized most in Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Eichi visited Teacher Arno after school and asked about the academies’ Bug-type research.
  • Teacher Arno said Silver Academy and Sinnoh Academy had the deepest research into Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Eichi declared that he wanted to attend Silver Academy, master Bug-type training, and become the first Bug-type Elite Four.

  • Teacher Arno told Eichi that the Silver Academy assessment was about forty days away and gave him three books to study.
  • Amelie explained that Metapod did not need food during its Metapod stage and would eventually evolve into Beedrill on its own.
  • After a month of study, Eichi answered Teacher Arno’s questions confidently, and Teacher Arno said he could place in the top ten.
  • Eichi learned from Nurse Joy that Metapod’s energy was near its limit and that it might evolve within days, while he began wondering about the azure energy and changes to his eyes.
  • Amelie told Eichi that a ruthless Poaching Gang was capturing Pokémon in Viridian Forest and selling them on the black market.
  • Eichi bought a communicator so he could contact Officer Jenny, and he planned to warn Agawa and the others to avoid Viridian Forest.
