It hadn't been easy, but the author had finally padded this book to the end.

Perhaps because this was my first time writing, there were many things I genuinely didn't understand.
Actually, the author had noticed it while reading it too.
So many things could clearly have been summed up in one or two sentences, yet who knew what was wrong with the author's brain—I could somehow expand them into a whole huge paragraph.
