Background / History

Chaldea began as an observatory and obtained equipment comparable to an experimental facility after the 2004 Holy Grail War. Its founder, Marisbury Animusphere, is described as prudent; Li Ye and Holmes consider it possible that Marisbury was manipulated or inadvertently opened “Pandora’s Box,” rather than personally causing the Incineration of Humanity. Lev Lainur later destroyed Chaldea with a bomb. 29

The organization was built in Antarctica, outside any single nation’s control, and concealed by magical Barriers amid perpetual blizzards and mysterious mountains. Holmes identifies it as Earth’s largest and only Human Order observation facility. 412

Atlas Institute technology was central to Chaldea’s establishment. Using the Atlas Institute’s Contract Documents, Marisbury obtained the prototype technology for the Spiritron Calculator Trismegistus, allowing Chaldea to develop its prohibited Spiritron Transfer system. 92 440

During the Incineration of Humanity, Chaldea corrected six Singularities before its final confrontation at the Temple of Time. The Temple absorbed the base in a bubble state while eight Demon God Pillars attacked it; Chaldea diverted its power to protect the control room, Chaldeas, and its offensive systems. 174 262

After all Singularities were eradicated, Chaldea reduced operations. Most Servants departed, the Spiritron Transfer system was frozen, and the organization had lost eighty percent of its staff. 408 409

The Mage’s Association transferred Chaldea’s ownership to Gordoluf Mujik, while a United Nations inspection team prepared to investigate the former staff’s actions during the Grand Order. Soon afterward, hostile forces invaded the base, seized its systems, and shut down its communications and power. 409 411 412

Ritsuka Fujimaru, Mash Kyrielight, Da Vinci, Holmes, Gordoluf, and other survivors escaped in the Shadow Border through Void Submergence. They continued operating as Chaldea while confronting the Lostbelts. 413 415 459

Facilities and Systems

Chaldeas

Chaldeas, formally the Quasi-Terrestrial Environment Model: Chaldeas, is a scaled model that perfectly replicates the planet’s soul and possesses information equivalent to Earth itself. It operates data for an alternate Earth projected one hundred years into the future. 306

• Marisbury activated Chaldeas to observe whether civilization would continue to exist one hundred years ahead. 306
• Chaldea uses the model to observe Singularities before importing their data into the Spiritron Computer for Spiritron Transfer. 305
