Tang San is calm and measured in confrontations. At the Rose Hotel, he prevents Xiao Wu from escalating her argument with Dai Mubai and personally accepts the duel instead. He fights with control and strategy rather than Dai Mubai's direct aggression. 28

He is deeply protective of Xiao Wu, whom he calls his sister. When Zhao Wuji severely injures her, Tang San refuses to let the matter end with the completed entrance trial and demands another battle despite the disparity in strength. 35 39

Tang San also shows consideration for others. After Qian Yuling exhausts much of her Soul Power healing Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing, he declines Oscar's recovery sausage and asks that it be given to her instead. 36

Rose Hotel Dispute

Tang San arrives at the Rose Hotel with Xiao Wu while seeking its last available room. He duels Dai Mubai after the latter refuses to simply leave, displaying his Blue Silver Grass and level 29 Soul Power. Dai Mubai ultimately yields the room and notes that they will likely meet again at Shrek Academy. 28

Qian Yuling subsequently challenges Xiao Wu for the room. Tang San allows Xiao Wu to represent them, then catches and consoles her when she loses to Qian Yuling. 29

Shrek Academy Entrance

Tang San and Xiao Wu successfully register at Shrek Academy and skip directly to the fourth trial due to their level 29 Soul Power. 30 31

During the fourth trial, he helps establish the five-person strategy against Zhao Wuji, taking responsibility for battlefield control. 33

Battle Against Zhao Wuji

Tang San works with the other candidates to endure Zhao Wuji's assault for one incense stick, enabling the group to pass Shrek Academy's final entrance test. 34 35

After Zhao Wuji's excessive force leaves Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing unconscious, Tang San challenges him to another incense-stick battle in response. Qian Yuling joins the rematch for the latter half, motivated by Zhu Zhuqing's injuries. 35
