The nine kingdoms attached to the World Tree were normally independent, with no connection to or interference with one another. But when the Nine Realms aligned, under a certain rule contained within the World Tree, the nine kingdoms would spatially overlap.

Otherwise, Earth would have been destroyed countless times already.

Their spaces connected on a higher dimension, but their physical bodies remained in their original locations.

Furthermore, the Nine Realms existed by relying upon the same entity, the embodiment of an abstract rule: the "World Tree."

As a result, when they connected, the source energy supplied by the World Tree to the Nine Realms also connected, like nine separate batteries being linked together, producing enormous energy.

And coincidentally, Earth—or rather, Greenwich, where Lowett was—was the center where that energy was released.
