Background / History

Thousands of years before the main story, the Sun Moon Continent collided with Douluo Continent and launched an invasion. Its advance was stopped by a force of nearly sixty Titled Douluo gathered under Shrek Academy; its forces withdrew, and the Sun Moon Continent became the Sun Moon Empire 153 945.

Despite that defeat, the empire remained the strongest of the four great empires. Its Soul Tool technology maintained a lead of thousands of years, supported by mature Soul Engineer training, organized Soul Engineer Corps, extensive Rare Metal deposits, and superior economic strength 586 637.

Under Crown Prince and later Emperor Xu Tianran, the empire accelerated preparations to reunify the continent under the name “Sun Moon Continent.” His strategy relied on overwhelming Soul Tool superiority while using the Holy Spirit Cult to offset the empire's shortage of top-tier Soul Masters 452 657 945.

After the fall of the Holy Spirit Cult and severe losses of Rank 9 Soul Masters and strategic stockpiles, the empire's high-level combat strength declined significantly 819 968. Ju Zi later held the government together for three years as acting imperial authority; much later, following internal conflict, a new imperial family took control and the empire stabilized 994 1005.

• Imperial Family — The ruling house directs national policy and commands the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Corps directly. Xu Tianran used the throne to pursue continental unification, raise taxes for war, and prioritize military production 706 944.
• Radiant City — The capital and the continent's largest city. It has no city walls, but its scale, orderly administration, patrols, hidden observers, and advanced defenses reflect the empire's national power 574.
• Bright Virtue Hall — The empire's foremost Soul Tool research institution and the royal family's research base. More than seventy percent of its Soul Tool research was directed toward combat and warfare after Xu Tianran took power 600 819.
• Imperial Worship Hall — One of the imperial family's two principal pillars alongside the Sun Moon Royal Soul Master Corps. Kong Deming serves as its hall master 706 966.

Leadership

• Xu Tianran — Crown Prince who later became emperor. He sought to unify the continent, revive the name “Sun Moon Continent,” and employed the Holy Spirit Cult as a source of elite combat power 452 706.
• Ju Zi — Empress and commander of the all-female Fire Phoenix Soul Master Corps. After Xu Tianran's downfall, she temporarily maintained control of the court and worked to stabilize the empire 706 994.
• Kong Deming — Hall Master of the Imperial Worship Hall, founder of Bright Virtue Hall, and one of the empire's three most influential peak Rank 9 Soul Masters 966.

Soul Tool Superiority

The empire's technological advantage is rooted in its unusually abundant Rare Metal reserves. Most of its mountain ranges contain metal deposits, while Radiant City stores enormous quantities of Rare Metals, Soul Tools, and military supplies 637 658.

Its Soul Engineer system is built around military application. Soul Tools are widely integrated into infantry, aerial forces, detection networks, artillery formations, defensive arrays, and full-body combat armor 298 705 706.

• Rank 9 Fixed Soul Cannonballs — Strategic weapons capable of threatening national security; three were used to destroy the Dou Ling imperial palace and annihilate its imperial family 424 949.
• Soul Tool armor — The empire's highest-grade close-combat Soul Tools take the form of full-body armor, enhancing offense, defense, and even cultivation enough for Soul Engineers to display Assault-type Battle Soul Master combat capability 298.
• Detection networks — Border defenses can combine all-terrain long-range detection, thermal detection, anti-air detection, triggered positioning tools, and high-altitude detection Soul Tools. Political and Military Actions

Tournament blockade

The empire altered the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Youth Elite Tournament to include sect teams, creating an opportunity to gather elite youths from academies and factions across the continent in Radiant City 556 557.

During the tournament, Soul Engineer legions blockaded Radiant City. Most participating teams were detained after the event, while only Star Luo Royal Academy and the Body Sect successfully withdrew 596 688. The operation drew condemnation for turning a continent-wide competition into a trap 705.

War preparations

Xu Tianran increased taxes to fund a war economy, maintained forced Rare Metal extraction despite casualties, and secretly ordered Jing Hongchen to produce Rank 9 Fixed Soul Cannonballs 944 946.

The empire mobilized all five national guardian-level Soul Master Corps, more than thirteen Rank 9 Soul Masters, and nearly two hundred thousand troops during the opening phase of war 952.

Invasion of the Dou Ling Empire

The empire launched a maritime surprise attack against the Dou Ling Empire, bypassing Star Luo and Heavenly Soul territory. Ye Yulin's fleet established a coastal foothold, deployed a Soul Cannon formation, and advanced by air toward Ling Dou City 947 948.

Three Rank 9 Fixed Soul Cannonballs destroyed the Dou Ling imperial palace, killing the imperial family and most ministers. Ling Dou City subsequently fell to the Sun Moon Empire 949 950.

The occupation did not endure. After Ye Yulin's death, the Heaven Dou Empire recaptured Ling Dou City and merged with the remnants of the Dou Ling Empire to form the Heaven Dou Empire 961 962.

Defensive turn

Following Ju Zi's abduction and mounting losses, Xu Tianran briefly ordered an attack on Shrek Academy before Kong Deming persuaded him to abandon the plan. The empire then shifted toward defense and the reinforcement of its Soul Master and Soul Engineer forces 968.

Culture and Symbols

• Evil Eye Tyrant Sovereign — The empire's national totem and the namesake of the Evil Lord Soul Master Corps. It is revered as the strongest Soul Beast native to the Sun Moon Empire 832.
