As the Word Bearers' Transport Ship plunged into Andermung's skies and collided with the Ultramarines fleet, Barabas Dantioch of the Iron Warriors received Warsmith Idex Krendl at Schadenhold Fortress, which he had built himself.
During the purging of his homeworld, he had allowed 4,250 Olympians to escape.
Afterward, he was exiled to the planet Damantyne.
"Warsmith." Krendl, the newly appointed Warsmith of the Fourteenth Grand Company, offered his former commander a cold greeting.
"Krendl." Barabas did not acknowledge the other man's new rank.
"The Fifty-First Fleet sends its greetings. Allow me to introduce Magos Grattus and Hasdrubal Serapis, captain of the Sons of Horus." Krendl's tone grew ever colder.
Barabas waved a hand indifferently. "What are the Emperor's orders?"
"Dantioch, you must understand that every word of the Warmaster is law." Krendl raised his uneven brows.
"We have brought new orders from the Primarch and the Warmaster."
Barabas sensed that Krendl no longer showed him respect. "Damantyne is a key point along a trade route. Merchants and pirates alike pass through it."
"A few months ago, they brought news of nightmares here: an abnormal civil war had erupted within the Imperium, meaning the Emperor's Children were dead."
"I have heard enough of this. You are wasting our time," Serapis warned.
"Indeed." Krendl's lips split into a grin.
"Dantioch, your duty as an assistant is over. Your men will be reassigned to serve the Warmaster."
"You must join the assault on Terra."
"Krendl, think about what you are doing."
"The Emperor is absorbed in his research. The Imperium no longer needs the council and bureaucratic politics he established while in seclusion," Serapis said mockingly.
"We need a leader, to wage an expedition with purpose."
"I am the Warsmith. You will obey my lawful title," Krendl roared.
