The Blood Angels' flagship, the Blood Tear.
Carnot reached the doors of Angel's Rest. The Honor Guard raised an arm to stop him.
"Our father needs to rest. Please..."
A tiny indicator on his arm guard lit up red, and he lowered his arm.
"You may enter."
Carnot glanced around, trying to spot the hidden sensors watching the antechamber.
Perhaps it was Father's foresight...
Carnot entered the chamber. His father sat at its center on the Bronze Throne, draped with a red velvet blanket.
He wore no armor. Small hemispherical compartments lined the wall behind him, their glowing panels displaying the armor pieces stored within.
Without his golden armor, the Angel had lost none of his radiance. His wings hung from his shoulders like a cloak.
"Carnot, what troubles you?"
"Father, I shouldn't disturb you..." Carnot looked at the black robe wrapped around the Angel. Apart from the Blood Angels' legion insignia, it bore only a heavy black mourning band. Everything that had happened on Signus had branded an eternal wound deep in the Blood Angels' souls. The thirst for blood they thought they had conquered had erupted again.
Every Blood Angel was exhausted and afraid, however hard they tried to hide it.
That made the journey through the Warp harder still, especially with the immense storm swirling around them.
Their father rarely appeared. When he did, he urged the Navigators to guide his fleet toward any place where they could rest.
The Navigators' answer was that their only Anchor in the Warp's shifting chaos—the Astronomican on Terra—had grown indistinct.
Warp turbulence on an unprecedented scale churned through the void. The entire fleet seemed to stagger through a screaming Abyss.
