Background / History

Mei was a top student before becoming a Valkyrie and continued to rank first academically at St. Freya Academy. She became Team 233’s strongest conventional combatant, its gentlest member, and the apartment’s best cook. She initially fought with an ordinary Muramasa Katana and relied on skill rather than specialized equipment. 4 5 18

Her father, Ryoma, was president of ME Company before Cocolia framed him for economic fraud and forged financial documents. He was removed by the board and imprisoned. Mei also states that Cocolia modified her body into that of a Herrscher. Determined to prove her father’s innocence, Mei resolved to become an S-rank Valkyrie. 16 17

Mei’s first major Herrscher incident occurred aboard the Moonlight Throne. When an Emperor-class Honkai Beast endangered Kiana and retreat would have left Bronya exposed, Mei removed her restrictions and annihilated the enemy with lightning. The exertion left her unconscious, while the incident confirmed that prolonged use of her powers could allow Honkai consciousness to consume her. 14 15

Her father later directed her toward a gift stored at ME Company: Plasma Shadow Show, a katana intended to restrain a Herrscher should Mei lose control. Mei kept the weapon rather than surrendering it to Ling Feng. 17 36 37

She is also highly driven. Her wish to clear Ryoma’s name, protect her friends, and keep pace with stronger allies repeatedly pushes her to pursue greater power despite the danger of Honkai corruption. 16 27 52 77

In battle, Mei is strategic and protective. She directs Bronya to secure mission objectives while she and Kiana hold the line, intervenes to shield Kiana from stronger enemies, and refuses to abandon Himeko after the latter is injured. 14 21

Team 233 Recruitment

Mei joins Kiana and Bronya in receiving Ling Feng as Team 233’s assistant. She welcomes him politely and helps clean and prepare his room, establishing herself as the household’s responsible caretaker. 3

Stigmata Enhancement

Seeking to become stronger, Mei accepts Ling Feng’s manual Stigmata imprinting. The resulting four-star Attila Stigmata dramatically improves her combat performance and helps establish her and Kiana as leading students in their class. 7 8 12

Moonlight Throne Incident

Mei leads the effort to contain Honkai Beasts aboard the rogue Moonlight Throne while Bronya works on its systems. She releases her Third Herrscher power to protect Kiana and eliminate an Emperor-class Honkai Beast, despite her promise not to use that power again. 14 15

Herrscher Instability

Mei again invokes Herrscher power to save Kiana and Himeko, but Honkai consciousness takes control and turns her against Kiana. Ling Feng restores her by draining the Honkai energy from her, reinforcing Mei’s fear of becoming a true Herrscher. 22 27

ME Company Gift Retrieval

Mei travels to Japan with Ling Feng and Kiana to retrieve Ryoma’s hidden gift. Using ME Company’s final password, she accesses the storage area and obtains Plasma Shadow Show, accepting the painful implication that her father prepared a weapon to restrain her. 28 36 37

Conquest Gem Training

After Kiana absorbs her power during another Herrscher episode, Mei begins learning to use the Conquest Gem safely. Ling Feng trains her in rapid swordsmanship, Flash Step, lightning control, and Thunder Shadow Blade. 41 51 52

Training under Ling Feng and Fu Hua allows Mei and Kiana to advance to A-rank Valkyrie on the same day. Mei receives the first-place designation after Kiana voluntarily yields it. 117
