The faint light of dawn, like a soft veil, slowly spread across the outlines of a city that had just endured a catastrophe.
The smoke of yesterday's battle seemed to still linger in certain corners, leaving behind a barely perceptible trace. But more than that, a vigorous vitality of renewal was awakening alongside the morning light.
Especially in the city's former filthy, crowded, and forgotten slums.
At this moment, the place had become a vast construction site. Unlike before, however, those busy at work were not human laborers, but large numbers of streamlined, highly efficient Hex Robots.
These automated units deployed by the Engineering Department worked like diligent worker ants, carrying out renovation and construction at astonishing efficiency under the direction of preset programs.
They used laser cutters to precisely dismantle dangerous buildings, composite printing arms to construct new building frames, and multifunctional arms to handle interior finishing and pipeline installation.
The low, dilapidated shacks and crumbling tenement blocks were being swiftly flattened. In their place rose the beginnings of modular megastructure apartments—clean-lined, sturdy, uniform in appearance, yet not cold—as well as planned public green spaces, community centers, and medical stations.
For the slum dwellers who had once struggled merely to survive here, their former lives now felt like a distant nightmare.
Every day, the first thing they worried about upon waking was their next meal—how to endure hunger with the cheapest synthetic biscuits, how to find a relatively warm corner to curl up in against the cold wind...
Now, all of that seemed to have changed overnight.
At the temporary distribution points, where Auxilia soldiers maintained order, people no longer had to pay anything to receive steaming hot, nutritionally balanced meals. There were even fresh fruits and clean drinks that had once been rare luxuries.
