Main Quest

After deploying the Sister piece, Chen Xi did not project his consciousness into the box as he had before.

He wanted to test the effects of another control mode.

At his thought, the Servo-skull quickly projected lines of text, explaining the changes resulting from the orders he had issued.

"Magos Ovilia acquired grapevine cuttings and seeds. Following the included planting instructions, she quickly cultivated the seedlings and built the first vineyard in a valley on the planet suitable for cultivation."

"The Planetary Governor visited the Ecclesiarchy. The Ecclesiarchy's Bishop was delighted by the Governor's visit, improving the Bishop's impression of him."

"The arrival of the Order of the Sacred Rose greatly pleased the Bishop, who supported the Order's settlement and voluntarily offered to apply to the Sector Bishop for permission to build a convent on the Order's behalf."

"Through the Bishop's mediation, the Sector Bishop did not object to the Order's settlement on Rostov II. Not only did he approve their arrival, he also took the initiative to provide weapons and equipment for fifty people, along with an Exorcist Tank."

"With the Sector Bishop's approval and the support of the planet's Ecclesiarchy, preparations for the convent's construction have been successfully completed. However, the various factions could not agree on its location. Should the Governor choose the construction site?"

Seeing the option suddenly appear beneath the lines of text, Chen Xi froze for a moment before asking, "What difference does it make? Is there anything I should keep in mind?"

"The Ecclesiarchy recommends building the convent within the city, to demonstrate the Ecclesiarchy's majesty and sanctity to the faithful. It would also better spread faith in the Emperor and his doctrines, allowing more people to devote themselves to the Emperor."

"Chancellor Rachel recommends building the convent outside the city. She believes the Sisters of Battle are a military organization that needs to conduct daily military training, making an out-of-town location more suitable."

"Treasurer Ochumelov reminds the Governor that the planet's financial situation is not particularly good. Rostov II currently cannot support the construction of an overly lavish or large-scale convent, and he recommends making use of existing Ecclesiarchy buildings."

"Please note: Ochumelov's recommendation may offend the Ecclesiarchy and affect the relationship between the Governor and the Ecclesiarchy. Please choose carefully."

Seeing the warning issued by the Servo-skull, Chen Xi immediately recalled the prompt he had received when he first activated the box. The decisions and choices he made would genuinely affect the entire world.

"So, does that mean making the wrong choice could lead to serious consequences?" Chen Xi rubbed his chin, then recalled that he had asked the treasurer to submit a report on the planet's finances. "Less than a day has passed on my side. Does time flow differently on Rostov II?"

"In global mode, the current time-flow ratio is 1:100. You may freely adjust it between 1:1 and 1:1000."

"What about the time flow in possession mode? Also, what point in time is Rostov II currently at? If the Great Rift has not yet opened, can I intervene in the Battle of Cadia?" The moment Chen Xi heard about time, he immediately asked the questions that concerned him most.

Rostov II was located in the Sol System. Even after the Great Rift opened, it would still be part of the relatively less affected Imperium Sanctus.

Missing the Battle of Cadia would be one thing, but if he could make it in time, Chen Xi really wanted to see whether he could summon a ring of Primarchs to gang up on Abaddon.

"Rostov II is currently in 970.M41, thirty years before the Thirteenth Black Crusade."

"Damn it, why this point in time?!" Chen Xi immediately felt a headache coming on. Only now did he realize that the newbie quest Big E had given him was anything but simple.

999.M41 was the year Cadia fell. In that year, Abaddon launched the Thirteenth Black Crusade and destroyed Cadia, the crucial fortress world the Imperium had stationed at the entrance to the Eye of Terror. Warp energy poured from the Eye of Terror, forming a Warp rift that tore across the entire galaxy.

The Imperium's territory was split in two by that rift. The part still able to see the Astronomican's light and controlled by Holy Terra was called the Imperium Sanctus, while the region separated from Holy Terra by the Great Rift was the Imperium Nihilus.

The only passage between them was where the famous Vigilus was located.

Likewise, in that year, the Primarch Roboute Guilliman returned. He successfully prevented the Imperium's collapse and launched the grand campaign known as the Indomitus Crusade, reclaiming Imperial territory and saving both the Imperium and humanity.

Now, there were thirty years left until that crucial year—exactly the period during which Rostov II could still receive free food from agricultural worlds.

In other words, if Chen Xi could not develop Rostov II during these thirty years when he did not need to worry about food, then he could forget grand ambitions like influencing the galaxy's overall situation or changing the current state of the Imperium. He should first worry about surviving the chaos triggered by the opening of the Great Rift.

Having learned this, Chen Xi could not help taking a deep breath. His task looked daunting indeed.

Thirty years was certainly a long time by the standards of the 3K Era, but in Warhammer 40K, it was extremely short. It was not even enough time for a batch of Space Marines to grow up and complete their recruit training.

"In other words, if I want to intervene in the Battle of Cadia in 999.M41, I need to train a usable army within thirty years, or raise my authorization level to at least level four. Otherwise, my power simply won't be able to affect the Battle of Cadia, and I may not even be able to hold on to Rostov II." Chen Xi did not believe that Rostov II's current military forces could handle the coming crisis after the Great Rift opened.

Unless the Emperor spawned some lion who had slept for ten thousand years on Rostov II, or fished out some puma man who had gotten lost after chasing tail in the Webway, Chen Xi did not think he could endure after the Great Rift opened.

After all, it was a massive rift tearing across the entire galaxy, one that could be seen simply by looking up at the night sky. Even a Primarch would suffer hallucinations after staring at it for too long, unable to stop dark thoughts and extreme emotions from arising within.

Not to mention the Chaos daemons and Cultists spawning all across the galaxy along the Great Rift. That was absolutely not something a mere ten regiments of the Planetary Defense Force could stop.
