Taking Office as Governor

For his first journey across worlds, Chen Xi chose the pieces he was about to deploy with exceptional care.

First came the piece he would descend into and possess. Restricted by his permissions, Chen Xi could not use his favorite Astartes or Adeptus Custodes, much less deploy his second favorite, the Necrons.

This greatly narrowed the range of pieces he could choose from.

After all, while he had twenty thousand points' worth of pieces, ten thousand points consisted of Space Marines from different Chapters, five thousand were Necrons, and the remaining five thousand were divided among the Astra Militarum, Sisters of Battle, Adeptus Custodes, Imperial Knights, the Inquisition, and the Adeptus Mechanicus.

When Chen Xi had first gotten into the hobby, he had been a painting enthusiast, so he had loved buying different pieces.

Back then, he could not find anyone to play against, so he had mostly entertained himself. As a result, he had devoted most of his energy to collecting and painting various models.

That was precisely why he still had pieces from the Order of the Sisters of Battle, the Inquisition, and the Astra Militarum available to choose from.

Otherwise, if all he had were Astartes, he would have had to find someone to borrow a batch of pieces from or buy new ones himself.

With the limits on both permissions and points, Chen Xi naturally could not deploy too many pieces on his first attempt.

After giving it serious thought, he chose the Inquisition's legendary Inquisitor Eisenhorn as the piece he would possess, pairing him with a squad of Kasrkin Shock Troopers and a squad of Sisters of Battle from the Order of the Sisters of Battle.

One thing needed to be clarified: although Chen Xi could choose to deploy pieces based on certain famous figures, those pieces would not become those people themselves. Instead, they were more like counterparts with identical attributes.

For instance, after Chen Xi deployed this Eisenhorn piece, it would become an Inquisitor of The Inquisition. While it possessed the same attributes as Eisenhorn, such as Psychic Talent, experience as an Inquisitor, and his abilities, it had nothing else special about it.

The same applied to other famous figures.

However, this made no difference to Chen Xi. As long as the pieces could do their job, he did not insist on having Big E's coins work for him.

As long as counterfeit money could be spent, it was still money, wasn't it?

Having selected his pieces, Chen Xi placed them on a floating platform inside the box, following the Servo-skull's instructions.

The pieces were immediately enveloped by a golden force, and Chen Xi knew this meant they could now be deployed into that world.

To attach his consciousness to one of the pieces, he merely needed to touch it with his hand.

Chen Xi naturally did not hesitate. He tapped Eisenhorn with a finger.

With a moment of disorientation, he felt his perspective abruptly change, as though he had become the piece himself.

Then, a layer of golden dust rose from the bottom of the box, forming the outline of a room within it. The pieces were also enveloped by golden dust and transferred into the room.

"So this counts as arriving? It doesn't feel like much..." Chen Xi moved his body, feeling the various kinds of knowledge being poured into his mind. Though he felt slightly uncomfortable, there was indeed no real sensation of having crossed into another world.

Other than changing into an Inquisitor's outfit, gaining a bolt pistol at his waist, and holding a Force Staff in his hand, he could not see any major changes.

Of course, that was excluding the squad of Kasrkin and the squad of Sisters of Battle currently standing beside him.

They watched Chen Xi quietly, seemingly awaiting his further instructions.

"They are no different from ordinary humans. You may give them any orders you wish." The Servo-skull floating beside Chen Xi explained.

"I understand. Where am I now?" Chen Xi had already slipped into character. He straightened his clothes and asked the Servo-skull and those beside him about the situation.

"You are currently aboard an Imperial Navy Sword-class Frigate. You arrived at the target planet aboard this vessel, and it is about to land." The Servo-skull explained, then projected information about the planet they were about to reach. "The planet you are about to arrive at is called Rostov II. It is the only Imperial colony world in a sub-sector of the Mariupol Sector, as well as the seat of that sub-sector's capital.

However, the Mariupol Sector is a newly developed sector that the Imperium has only recently opened up. The Imperial colony on Rostov II was established less than seventy years ago, so its facilities and development remain almost entirely in their initial stages.

The planet currently has a population of 1.2 billion, mainly consisting of Ecclesiarchy immigrants and convicts transferred from penal worlds.

The planet's primary political forces are retired Astra Militarum personnel and the Ecclesiarchy. The planet itself was assigned to an Astra Militarum Regiment that had retired collectively.

As for the Ecclesiarchy, its influence began with the preaching carried out after Ecclesiarchy immigrants arrived on the planet."

"Sounds good. An undeveloped planet, a fledgling Imperial colony world. The Emperor truly bestowed generous favor." Chen Xi had already adjusted himself, making his appearance better suit that of an Inquisitor. Even his choice of words had changed.

Character import complete. Novice mission activated.

Novice Mission One: Assume the Governorship

Mission Objective: Complete the governor's inauguration ceremony and become the Planetary Governor of this planet.

"Become the Planetary Governor? It seems things will not go quite so smoothly." Chen Xi narrowed his eyes, then looked toward his two squads and gave his orders. "Check your equipment and prepare for battle! We may encounter all kinds of situations."

The Kasrkin and Sisters of Battle immediately checked their weapons as Chen Xi ordered, then prepared for combat.

It might have been unnecessary, but this was the Warhammer world... a world where transmigrators would cry like Gretchin. Anything could happen.

Especially since the Imperium's attitude toward Planetary Governor coups had always been to leave them alone so long as Tithes were paid and there were no obvious signs of corruption or betrayal of the Imperium.

What if someone disliked the newly arrived governor and thought, I could take his place? That would be a real pain in the ass.

Do not think it impossible. For an Imperial Planetary Governor, putting down a rebellion as the first thing after taking office was truly an experience one had no choice but to savor.

"Too bad I can't use Astartes. Otherwise, with a squad of Terminators in hand, would I need to fear being unable to put down a planetwide rebellion?" Chen Xi sighed, but quickly rallied himself and pushed the door open before walking out.

Behind him, the Sisters of Battle and Kasrkin Shock Troopers immediately followed.
