In the original story, Admiral Krieg had such terrible luck that, shortly after entering the Grand Line, he was chased down by Hawkeye Mihawk alone and wiped out completely.
Garen was not a powerhouse on Hawkeye Mihawk's level, but his abilities feared human-wave tactics the least.
Not only did he not fear them, Garen would actually be delighted if the enemy had more people.

Nami rushed up in agitation, grabbed Garen by the collar, and roared, "There are only three of us!"

Garen corrected her calmly. "I'm the only one who can fight."
"Then why are you still going?!"
