Chapters 232–256 Vol. 3 Read

Ch. 232The Strongest Spear

Garen fought Braun, an armored giant who resisted his attacks, and discovered that his Sword Recall ability could bypass the giant’s armor. He killed Braun with a recalled sword, leaving the battle with the prisoners still raging around Kuzan.

  • Garen chose Braun, a giant prisoner attacking the ice wall, as his target and struck his armored knee, but barely wounded him.
  • Braun revealed that he was the Armor-Armor Fruit user, then attacked Garen with a barrage of armored fists.
  • Garen used Demacian Justice to burn Braun through his armor, but realized the giant could withstand a prolonged fight.
  • Garen threw his greatsword past Braun, rushed to his chest, and recalled the blade through Braun’s body, piercing his heart.
  • Braun tried to flee despite his injury, but Garen recalled the sword again and severed his throat and spine, killing him.

Ch. 233One Against Ten

Garen fought ten sixth-floor prisoners, killing three despite being surrounded and taking heavy damage. He stood over the tiger shark fish-man’s corpse and challenged the remaining prisoners while hoping to recover some HP.

  • After Garen killed Armored Giant Braun, ten prisoners surrounded him to stop him from picking off another target.
  • Garen attacked the Glue Man, got trapped in his glue, then ignited it with Justice Rage and burned him to death.
  • The prisoners attacked together, but Garen charged through the tiger shark fish-man’s Fish-Man Karate and struck him with Demacia.
  • While the prisoners battered him, Garen focused on the tiger shark fish-man and killed him with another Demacia.
  • Garen challenged the eight surviving prisoners and silently hoped to recover some HP.

Ch. 234Ultimate Healing Method

Garen struggled against the cow-man and eight other prisoners, then revealed that his mysterious bundle contained live fish. He used his sword and life steal on the fish to restore his health, leaving the battle still underway.

  • The prisoners renewed their attack after the cow-man mocked their hesitation and transformed with the Cattle-Cattle Fruit: Cow Form.
  • Garen fought the cow-man and the other prisoners, taking heavy damage while struggling to hurt their armored bodies.
  • The cow-man realized Garen was weakening and urged the prisoners to keep attacking, so Garen called to Kuzan for the items he had left in the corridor.
  • Garen used Twilight of the Gods to reach the bundle, then returned with live fish that the prisoners mistook for a secret weapon.
  • Garen sliced the fish into sashimi and used life steal to refill his Health Bar.

Ch. 235A Worthy Opponent

Garen defeated the minotaur and prepared to let the prisoners attack so he could restore his Health Bar. A swordsman pretended to surrender, then cuffed Garen with Seastone Handcuffs, but Garen revealed he had been faking his weakness and counterattacked.

  • Garen killed the minotaur by impaling his skull with his greatsword during the minotaur’s Savage Charge.
  • Garen challenged the remaining prisoners, hoping they would attack while his Health Bar refilled.
  • A swordsman claimed he wanted to surrender, then secretly locked Seastone Handcuffs around Garen’s wrist.
  • The prisoners celebrated and closed in as Garen acted weakened by the Seastone.
  • Garen skewered the swordsman and another prisoner, then burned them from within with holy flames.

Ch. 236Giant Garen

After reaching Level 14, Garen discovered that Death Descent made him ten times larger, giving his attacks vast range and turning Justice Rage into a battlefield-wide blaze. As he chased down the fleeing prisoners, Sanjuan Wolf emerged from beneath Impel Down and ordered Garen to move aside.

  • Garen killed six powerful prisoners, reached Level 14, and acquired Death Descent.
  • Garen activated Death Descent and grew into a twenty-meter-tall giant without gaining extra strength or health.
  • Garen realized his enlarged size extended his attack range, and he crushed a prisoner with his greatsword.
  • Garen used Justice Rage to spread colossal flames across the battlefield, then chased down the fleeing prisoners with his increased reach and movement speed.
  • The ground shook as Sanjuan Wolf emerged from beneath Impel Down and told Garen to move aside.

Ch. 237Hannyabal's Despair

San Juan brought Teach and the mass of prisoners up to Impel Down’s highest level, where Garen and Kuzan confronted them. Teach revealed Garen’s friendship with the pirates and revolutionaries and insinuated that Kuzan was also involved, leaving Hannyabal unsure whether either ally could be trusted.

  • Hannyabal emerged from the elevator and apologized for failing to stop San Juan, while Kuzan and Garen told him they would handle the giant.
  • San Juan smashed through Impel Down’s ceiling and placed Teach, Ace, Sabo, Jinbe, Whitebeard Pirates, Revolutionary Army officers, and other prisoners before Garen and Kuzan.
  • Teach greeted Garen as a brother and claimed that he, Garen, Ace, and Sabo were inseparable friends, shocking the prisoners and Hannyabal.
  • Teach used their alleged friendship to pressure Garen to let the prisoners pass, while Kuzan recognized the malice behind his friendly act.
  • Teach told everyone that Kuzan and Garen had shown him care over the Celestial Dragon incident, and Kuzan’s silence made Hannyabal fear both men might be compromised.

Ch. 238Teach's Righteous Release

  • Garen insisted that only the worst prisoners had to stay and told Teach and Ace they could leave.

Ch. 239The Battle Was About to Begin

Buggy’s Marines escaped Akainu’s attack on their warship when Whitebeard’s tremors erased the lava meteors, and Akainu confronted Whitebeard at Impel Down. As the main battle began, Kuzan left to join the front lines while Garen fled a crowd of angry prisoners.

  • Buggy’s Marines mistook his hesitation for a plan to destroy the warship and evacuated the unconscious Vice Admiral Momonga.

  • Kuzan rushed to the front lines, while Garen used Soru to escape the prisoners who had surrounded him.

Ch. 240Recognizing a Son Before the Battle

  • Garen found World and eight other Level Six prisoners unconscious beneath the rubble and grew excited at the discovery.

Ch. 241Klepto Hand

Garen killed World after he woke, then reached Level 15 and gained Klepto Hand, which let him temporarily copy skills from nearby Devil Fruit users. As Garp mistook Garen’s Spell Shard collecting for delusion, he promised to take him to a doctor after the war.

  • Garen killed the wounded World before he could grab a knife, then slew nine more criminals and gained enough experience to reach Level 15.
  • Garen received Klepto Hand and realized that nearby Devil Fruit users dropped temporary Spell Shards when they used their powers.
  • Garen collected shards on the battlefield and temporarily copied abilities including Buggy’s Chop-Chop Fruit and a Marine officer’s Dalmatian form.
  • Garen continued gathering shards and praised the unfamiliar ability users whose strange powers held up in the battle.
  • Garp saw Garen pawing at empty air, believed the Impel Down riot had overwhelmed him, and promised to take him to a doctor after the war.

Ch. 242The Shichibukai Who Were Slacking Off

Garen gained the Diamond-Diamond Fruit ability and clashed with Hawkeye Mihawk, who mistook him for Diamond Jozu. After noticing Hancock was missing from the battlefield, Garen headed back toward Impel Down to find her.

  • Garen learned Hancock had gone into Impel Down to look for him, saw no sign of her, and rushed back to find her.

Ch. 243The Giant Shows His Might

Garen transformed into a giant and tore through the prisoners blocking his way as he rushed to find Hancock. After killing their leader, he faced a new arrival whose foot landed before him.

  • Garen stepped forward to cut off the prisoners' reinforcements, but a group of prisoners who held a grudge blocked his path.
  • The long-armed prisoner taunted Garen by revealing that Hancock had gone alone into a crowd of prisoners searching for him.
  • Enraged, Garen transformed into a twenty-meter giant and used Ultimate Flash to blast a gap through the prisoners.
  • Garen turned into a diamond giant and charged the remaining enemies with Shining Crash, sending several prisoners flying and seizing their leader.
  • Garen summoned his giant sword and killed the long-armed prisoner, then challenged the surviving prisoners as a new figure arrived before him.

Ch. 244Giant of Light

Sanjuan Wolf attacked Garen over an old grudge, but Garen’s speed let him evade the giant’s devastating blows. After discovering a Human-Human Fruit: Buddha Form spell fragment, Garen used it to transform into a golden giant as large as Sanjuan, leaving Sengoku stunned.

  • Sanjuan Wolf confronted Garen and attacked him, shaking and shattering the glacier with his enormous fists and feet.
  • Garen wounded Sanjuan’s calf with a giant sword aura, but his Justice strike barely affected the giant.
  • Garen planned to exploit Sanjuan’s lack of agility and noticed a Human-Human Fruit: Buddha Form spell fragment on the battlefield.
  • Sanjuan stomped at Garen, who stayed still and activated the Buddha-form ability just before being crushed.
  • Garen emerged in golden Buddhist light as a giant as large as Sanjuan, while Sengoku stared in disbelief.

  • Garen transformed into a colossal golden giant, shocking Whitebeard, Teach, San Juan, and the other fighters.
  • Garen struck San Juan with a Buddha Fist and sent him flying toward the sea, then pursued him with a Leo Kick that crashed him into the water.
  • Wounded and unable to fight back, San Juan was attacked by Sea Kings as Garen prepared to finish him.
  • Garen changed his mind about using a shockwave, raised his greatsword, and unleashed an Ultimate Flash that struck San Juan and the Sea Kings.
  • Garen stood alone on the glacier and remarked that he still needed beam attacks to fight monsters, then lamented that he could not fly away.

Ch. 246Hero Saves the Beauty

Hancock rushed into the ruins of Impel Down to find Garen, but escaped prisoners overwhelmed her and planned to use her to force Garen to help them escape. Garen arrived as a Giant of Light, rescued Hancock, and unleashed a new attack on the prisoners.

  • Hancock entered the ruins of Impel Down alone, where Level Six prisoners cornered and defeated her.
  • The prisoners decided to capture Hancock and threaten Garen into helping them escape.

Ch. 247Waiting for the Hare

Garen devastated the fleeing prisoners outside Impel Down and tried to protect Hancock, then Magellan led the guards out of the collapsing prison and insisted on helping. Garen used a spell fragment to copy Magellan’s Venom-Venom Fruit and prepared to unleash a giant Poison Cloud, leaving the guards in danger nearby.

  • Garen’s Buddha attack annihilated a wave of prisoners, and he caught Hancock after his golden transformation ended.
  • Garen canceled his giant form, set Hancock down, and resumed attacking prisoners as they escaped Impel Down.
  • Hancock joined the fighting with Fragrant Foot, but Garen told her to stand behind him and let him protect her.
  • Magellan led hundreds of guards out of Impel Down, explaining that surface tremors threatened to collapse the prison, and insisted on fighting beside Garen.
  • Garen copied Magellan’s Venom-Venom Fruit, warned everyone to run, and transformed into a Poison Giant Soldier.

Ch. 248Everyone Flees the Poison

Garen’s enormous Poison Giant Soldier flooded Impel Down and the glacier with lethal poison, forcing both sides to retreat and ending the riot. Shiryu’s prisoners seized a Marine warship while Jozu brought Whitebeard another, and Whitebeard openly chose to flee with his wounded sons.

  • Garen summoned a giant Poison Giant Soldier whose poison spread through Impel Down, turning Crimson Hell into Red Poison Hell and killing prisoners who tried to escape upward.
  • The poisonous fog forced Marines, Whitebeard’s pirates, Revolutionary Army fighters, and prisoners to flee; Kuzan’s ice wall failed to stop it, and Sengoku ordered a retreat.
  • At the glacier’s edge, the group spotted Sengoku’s warship, but Shiryu and other escaped sixth-level prisoners revealed they had seized it and sailed away.
  • Jozu pushed Whitebeard’s warship out of the poison and collapsed after being poisoned, while Whitebeard praised him and Sengoku tried to shame Whitebeard into staying.
  • Whitebeard laughed and admitted to Sengoku that he was running away with his wounded sons.

Ch. 249The Navy's Emergency Plan

Garen returned to the battlefield and learned that Whitebeard had seized the Navy’s warships, prompting Sengoku to launch an emergency plan targeting Teach. Whitebeard saved Teach from the Admirals’ first assault, but Akainu eventually pierced Teach’s chest with magma.

  • Garen found the battlefield empty after his temporary Devil Fruit effects vanished, then followed the fighting to the glaciers where Whitebeard’s forces were boarding captured warships.
  • Sengoku halted the Navy’s pursuit and ordered the emergency plan, leading the officers to attack Whitebeard while Akainu, Blue Pheasant, and Kizaru targeted Teach.
  • Kizaru wounded Teach with a barrage of lasers, Blue Pheasant froze him, and Akainu sent a magma hound at him, but Whitebeard stopped the attack with a vibration and took Sengoku’s punch.
  • Whitebeard’s intervention let Teach escape, but a falling chunk of ice blocked his path and gave Akainu the opening to pierce his chest with magma.

Ch. 250The Dreamless Deadweight

Akainu appeared to kill Teach, but Marco revealed that Teach survived because he had multiple hearts, and Whitebeard withdrew his crew to get him treated. Teach woke to learn Akainu had destroyed two of his hearts, leaving him alive but believing his lifelong dream was impossible.

  • Akainu pierced Teach with magma, and Ace attacked him before Whitebeard struck Akainu with a powerful slash.
  • Marco announced that Teach was still alive because his body had more than one heart, so Whitebeard escorted him away for treatment.
  • Marco and Ivankov treated Teach aboard the warship and reported that one of his three hearts remained intact.
  • Teach awoke and learned that Akainu had destroyed two hearts, which he had needed to pursue his dream of taking multiple Devil Fruit powers.
  • Teach fell into despair as his family tried to comfort him, while Whitebeard hurried to his bedside.

Ch. 251Exposure

After the Marines’ defeat, Garen learned that Nami, Vivi, and Robin had encountered Enel on Sky Island, where Vivi drove him off but he stole their airship. Sengoku discovered that Garen was protecting Nico Robin, but backed down from confronting him.

  • Sengoku accepted responsibility for the Marines’ defeat and reflected that he might soon lose his position as Fleet Admiral.
  • Nami called Garen to report that the group had found Sky Island and that Enel had attacked them.
  • Vivi explained that her sand had stopped Enel’s lightning, but Enel had stolen their airship; Nami added that Robin had found a Poneglyph and that Sky Island held great treasure.
  • Garen told the group to stay safe until he arrived, then Sengoku questioned him about protecting Nico Robin.
  • Garen openly defended Robin and warned Sengoku not to force him into becoming a pirate, so Sengoku chose to forget the confrontation.

Ch. 252Thunder God Descent

Enel attacked Nami, Vivi, and Robin for raiding the City of Gold, but Vivi countered his lightning and wounded him. Enel then powered up the Ark Maxim to unleash Lightning Descent, only for another Thunder God to appear behind him.

  • Enel sensed Nami, Vivi, and Robin taking treasure from the City of Gold and flew there to attack them.
  • Vivi raised a sand wall that absorbed Enel’s lightning strikes while Nami and Robin continued collecting treasure.
  • Vivi launched a Desert Greatsword at Enel, desiccating his lower leg before he could fully transform into lightning.
  • Enel transformed into a 200 Million Volt Thunder God and used the Ark Maxim to gather a massive storm cloud for Lightning Descent.
  • As Enel threatened to destroy the City of Gold, a powerful voice challenged him, and he turned to see the foot of another Thunder God.

Ch. 253Thunderclash Showdown

Garen confronted Enel after arriving to protect Nami, Vivi, and Robin, and overwhelmed him with his enormous thunder god form. Lightning could not harm either man, so Garen dropped the transformation and defeated Enel with Armament Haki and his fists.

  • Garen appeared in a towering lightning form and reassured Nami, Vivi, and Robin that he would handle Enel.
  • Enel unleashed Lightning Descent, but Garen caught the attack and crushed it in his hands.
  • Garen struck Enel with a massive lightning bolt, but Enel absorbed the electricity and emerged unharmed.

  • Garen dismissed his transformations and sliced Enel with a black Armament Haki-coated greatsword, draining the lightning power from his body.
  • Garen covered his fists in Armament Haki and beat Enel until he was bruised and swollen.

Ch. 254Garen's Skill Demonstration

Garen defeated Enel and captured him with Golden Lion's help, then explained that he could borrow other people's Devil Fruit abilities. He demonstrated the power using Robin's and Vivi's fruits, but his attempt to use Hancock's Love-Love Fruit turned Hancock, Nami, and Vivi to stone while Robin resisted.

  • Garen beat Enel until he surrendered, but Enel fled as a bolt of lightning while Garen reunited with Nami.
  • Golden Lion captured Enel with Seastone Handcuffs and returned with Hancock, prompting Nami to confront Garen about her presence.
  • Garen told Robin he would keep Enel alive for his rare Rumble-Rumble Fruit and explained that he could borrow Devil Fruit abilities.
  • Garen used Robin's Flower-Flower Fruit to create enormous arms, then borrowed Vivi's Sand-Sand Fruit and formed a giant sand tanuki.
  • Garen tried Hancock's Love-Love Fruit technique, Perfume Femur, and turned Hancock, Nami, and Vivi to stone while Robin remained unaffected.

Ch. 255Kentucky's Core Technology

Garen returned from Sky Island to Rainbase with gold and other treasures, then learned that his actions at Impel Down had made him famous across the seas. Kentucky revealed that he possessed Germa 66’s cloning technology, which Garen planned to use for construction and communications instead of making soldiers.

  • Garen brought Enel and Golden Lion to Rainbase, where Golden Lion forced Enel through punishing physical training.
  • Garen arrived at the airship factory and asked Kentucky why the employees revered him; Kentucky explained that Garen’s role in the Impel Down battle had become widely known.
  • Garen reassigned Kentucky from helium research to biological research, and Kentucky revealed that he had escaped Germa 66 with its cloning research materials.
  • Kentucky described cloning obedient warriors, but Garen asked whether the technology could mass-produce Den Den Mushi and Sky Island shells.
  • Garen declared that cloning should support Demacian Justice’s construction projects, then learned that Kentucky’s former employer was Germa 66.

Ch. 256Protagonists

Garen arranged to retrieve Kentucky’s stolen Germa 66 cloning research from the North Blue by airship, planning to stop in Nami’s hometown of Cocoyasi Village for the East Blue Sea Train ceremony. News of his return drew Zoro, Luffy, and the Baratie crew toward Cocoyasi Village.

  • Kentucky told Garen he had hidden Germa 66’s complete cloning research on an island in the North Blue, and Garen decided to retrieve it.
