Amid the faint sound, Carl opened her eyes again and saw Jack, Oliver, and Old Vic watching her with concern beside the operating table.

It looked like the surgery was over.

"How is it? No problems?"

Jack wanted to reach out and touch Carl's face, but withdrew his hand halfway. "It looks no different from before."

"The Behavioral Feature Sync Facemask hasn't been activated yet."

After glancing at Carl, Viktor refocused on the screen beside the operating table.

"I took a close look at this tech. It doesn't just alter your face—it can even change your voice. It must process the sound when you speak. It can do that without being installed in your neck. Militech's research really is something else. Give me a moment, Carl. I'll set up a few subtly adjusted facial templates for you and save them."

"Is it easy to operate?"

Oliver was a little worried that fiddling with it might ruin Carl's face.

"Easy as anything."

Old Vic spoke in a very relaxed tone. "It's not like I'm having Carl imitate someone or pose as somebody else. That might require adjusting it based on the target's behavioral traits. All I'm doing is making minor adjustments to Carl's own face. It's basically a little cosmetic surgery, understand? Except it's surgery performed by facial cyberware changing itself."

"Can I get my original face back afterward, Old Vic?"

Carl pressed her face and found that it felt no different from touching her own skin.

"Of course. You haven't got any weird facial cyberware installed, not even synthetic skin. If you did, I'd have to peel it back and stick it on again for you. There are plenty of advantages to an original body.
