An hour after Carl and the others took the job, outside a Biotechnology construction site on Pacifica's border near Dogtown.
The Night City Police Department cordon glinted faintly in the night. Carl walked over to the officer in charge and handed over her consultant credentials, which were recognized throughout the NCPD. After carefully checking them and looking at Carl's face, the officer saluted her, then waved for the officers to let them through.
Carl led Jack and Oliver across the police line and into the ruins.
The team was not fully staffed tonight: V had gone to handle another Cyberpsychosis case, while T-BUG was undergoing routine cyberware maintenance. Thus, Carl, Jack, and Oliver had been deployed this time.
The sight revealed beyond the cordon made Carl, who had infiltrated this place before, catch her breath and frown deeply.
The construction site had been ravaged beyond recognition, but what was truly unsettling was not the scale of the destruction, but its astonishing precision—the attack had clearly focused on several key points: the security center, the data core, and the entrance to the underground laboratory. Most other areas had been left almost completely intact.
"Professional-level tactical execution," Jack said quietly. "Like they knew exactly where their targets were."
Carl nodded slightly. Her gaze swept across the busy NCPD officers at the site, but she did not see a single Biotechnology representative. Oliver, who had noticed the same thing, spoke with some confusion.
"Something this serious happened, yet not a single person from Biotechnology showed up. Do they really not care about such an almost open provocation?"
"Not necessarily that they do not care," Carl said thoughtfully. "Perhaps they are prioritizing the status of their other locations."
She thought of the scattered storage warehouses. To Biotechnology, those warehouses still holding samples and half-finished
