The days passed one by one. The typhoon had left, and all that remained was the Promotion Tournament.
Early that morning, everyone gathered at the competition grounds. Today was the final match of the Promotion Tournament, and the venue was packed with spectators.
"Teacher Wu, your class is quite impressive to have made it this far." Ye Yingluo wore a cold, proud expression, her hands on her hips. Clearly, she was about to talk tough.
Sure enough, Ye Yingluo's next words were, "But when you face our class, your winning streak will come to an end."
Wu Changkong came with a built-in immunity to goddesses. No matter how much she said, he simply did not care, remaining his own aloof Male God and standing by his principles.
After the referee called for them to enter, Meng Li, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue stepped onto the arena. Their faces were unusually relaxed, all because of the trump card Meng Li had prepared.
"Where's my good brother Tang Wulin?" Xie Xie looked anxious. The three of them had been waiting on the stage for a while, but he still had not appeared.
"Didn't you go looking for him?" Meng Li was somewhat speechless. His phone could not get through either.
"There are rules at the Blacksmith Association. I can't say anything. I couldn't find him..." Xie Xie explained.
"Everyone, I'm back." Tang Wulin came over from afar, scratching his head, sweat still on his face.
"I'll repeat this: this is an academy competition. Keep your moves restrained. We are only deciding victory and defeat. Deliberately seriously injuring your opponents is forbidden, or you will face severe punishment from the academy." The referee spoke sternly.
Aside from Meng Li, who was only pretending to be nervous, everyone else was genuinely tense.
"The match begins!"
As the match began, Class One's agility-type Battle Soul Master, Wei Xiaofeng, was the first to attack. Two hundred-year soul rings rose from his body, and the Green Shadow Snake coiled around him bared its vicious fangs as it charged toward Meng Li.
His original opponent should have been Xie Xie, but with someone stronger and faster before him, he naturally wanted to challenge the stronger one.
Meng Li slowly closed his eyes, then opened them again. The look in his pupils changed drastically. In his eyes, Wei Xiaofeng's movements were nothing more than slow motion. He drew Murasa, Soul Power coating its blade, and seized the instant Wei Xiaofeng stalled at the start of his attack to strike first.
Wei Xiaofeng felt the powerful Soul Power slashing toward him and had no choice but to retreat and evade.
On the other side, Class One's Wang Jinxi possessed the dark-element close-combat Bone Dragon King martial soul. His golden dragon claw was closing in on Gu Yue and Tang Wulin.
In terms of strength, his martial soul was no weaker than that of a Soul Master below rank thirty. Even the way he walked was exceptionally imposing.
Tang Wulin smiled faintly. A golden dragon claw appeared on his hand, and with a single punch, he sent the much-hyped Wang Jinxi crashing to the ground, scattering chunks of stone.
When Class One's Zhang Yangzi saw his two teammates at a disadvantage, he found himself caught in Gu Yue's Wind Bind as well. After cursing his teammates twice, he spread a pair of Magic Eagle wings behind his back and easily dispelled the Wind Bind.
Since Xie Xie's Soul Power had already reached rank twenty, he barely needed any effort to defeat Class One's rank-nineteen Soul Master. Freeing up his hands, he entered the others' battle.
At that moment, black mist suddenly spread across the battlefield, enveloping all eight of them. Those outside could not see what was happening within at all, so for safety's sake, Meng Li and the other three gathered together.
"What do we do?" A thin sheen of sweat appeared on Tang Wulin's forehead.
"Easy." Meng Li's golden pupils directly ignored the black mist. He raised one hand, preparing to draw his sword and unleash that Fusion Skill, when he saw three figures rushing toward Xie Xie.
He shot toward Xie Xie at high speed. With rank-forty-six Soul Power, a single slash alone sent all three of them flying back.
"How is that possible?"
"That's impossible!"
The three from Class One cried out in shock. A One-ring Soul Master from Class Five had actually forced back all three Soul Grand Masters, and they had even been launching a sneak attack.
"Are you all right?" Meng Li shielded the three from Class Five behind him and stared at the three before him.
"I'm fine. These guys have the nerve to call themselves Class One, yet they resorted to sneak attacks. Even without you, I would've been fine." Xie Xie's face was cold.
"...Good. As long as you're fine." Meng Li relaxed.
Gu Yue's body suddenly shone brilliantly. She extended her palm, and a golden light appeared on the arena, thoroughly illuminating the black mist until only a few lingering shadows remained.
Wei Xiaofeng and Wang Jinxi watched those rays of golden light, inexplicable fear rising in their hearts as they retreated. Zhang Yangzi spread his wings and released darkness, trying to keep his two teammates from being afraid.
"You think that little darkness can stop us?" Gu Yue snorted coldly. The point of light in her hand grew larger, nearly making everyone present unable to open their eyes.
"She fused the Light Element and Fire Element. What a genius!" Long Hengxu cried out from below.
"Take out that girl first!" A Bone Dragon appeared behind Wang Jinxi. Class One's members, including the one who had originally only been there to make up the numbers, rose to their feet and charged toward Gu Yue.
Tang Wulin had intended to step forward, but seeing Meng Li already standing before Gu Yue, he stayed put. I have to give this chance to Brother Meng.
Gu Yue's heart stirred slightly.
"You're courting death." Meng Li gently drew Murasa from its sheath, and an invisible current of air radiated from the blade.
The atmosphere around them abruptly changed. Countless streams of Soul Power poured from Murasa, surrounding everyone in what resembled a circular wall of wind.
Naturally, Meng Li was not using a wind-element attack. This tornado was constructed entirely from Soul Power.
"What is this?" The four from Class One were all blown into the air, struggling to steady themselves.
"What astonishing Soul Power! Can you believe he's a rank-twelve Soul Master?" The students stared in disbelief.
"Here it comes." A green light flashed around Gu Yue. Countless Ice Cones appeared around her, more than twice as numerous and more than twice as large as when she had practiced before. They immediately shot through the air in overwhelming numbers toward the three of them.
The circular wind wall Meng Li released was not merely meant to trap the enemy. It could resonate with elemental attacks, strengthening the elemental attacks it produced!
As for how much stronger they became, that depended on how much Soul Power was released.
Just as Meng Li and the other two had expected, their opponents had no power to resist. The Bone Dragon, Green Shadow Snake, and Fire Lion instantly vanished.
Class One watched the snow and Ice Cones filling the sky. A dragon's roar and a clear eagle cry rang out almost at the same time. Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi's bodies simultaneously turned pitch-black, and then, astonishingly, they fused.
Zhang Yangzi's body turned into black light and silently merged into Wang Jinxi's body. The pair of wings behind him rapidly enlarged, becoming Wang Jinxi's wings.
Wang Jinxi's body began to swell and grow larger. A huge tail extended from behind him, while his left arm transformed into a Bone Dragon claw like his right. His aura soared.
Yet in just an instant, the two were torn apart by the powerful Soul Power attack from the other side. This storm of Ice Cones was not something a rank-twenty Soul Master could withstand. Ice crystals spread across all four of their bodies, turning them into ice sculptures.
Meng Li and Gu Yue withdrew their hands at the same time, and the snow on the arena gradually diminished.
"I declare the match over. Wu Changkong's class has won. Wu Changkong's class will become Class One."
Ye Yingluo had nothing to say. Class Five had indeed won with overwhelming superiority.
What she had not expected was that her three students, who only appeared once in several decades, would lose to a little girl and a boy rumored to have often skipped class in the past. It was truly hard for her to accept.
"We won, but why do I feel so useless?" Xie Xie mocked himself.
"We won, but why do I feel so useless?" Tang Wulin added his own complaint.
