History

Loss and restoration of power

Thor infiltrated a S.H.I.E.L.D. base on Midgard to reclaim Mjolnir. Though his divine power was sealed, he fought through agents bare-handed and accepted Cal's weapon for an honorable duel. His urgency to retrieve the hammer outweighed his interest in the challenge. 76

Mjolnir did not respond when Thor tried to lift it. Still unwilling to accept his father's trial, he continued forcing the issue until Vampire Aliens attacked. He was severely wounded and infected by their virus during the chaos. 78

Thor later regained his divine power in Wonderland Town. Lightning struck him, his armor materialized, and Mjolnir returned to his hand. He used the hammer to stop the regenerating Vampire Aliens from escaping before destroying them in sunlight. 80

After Sif, Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg arrived on Earth, Thor learned that Loki had endangered Asgard while Odin slept. Before departing, he named Merlin a permanent friend of both himself and Asgard for saving his companions from the Destroyer. 81

Chitauri Invasion and Timefall

Thor was selected for the Avengers Alliance during Loki's Chitauri campaign. He fought beside Stark during the attempt to reach the Chitauri mothership, clearing a path through Chitauri soldiers and damaging Leviathans with lightning and Mjolnir. 169 177

When the Tesseract-powered wormhole resisted Mjolnir, Thor and the Avengers concluded that Loki's Energy Scepter was needed to breach its barrier.
