Background / History
Frank Castle turned to vigilantism after the legal system failed to punish the Mexican and Irish gang members responsible for the deaths of his wife and daughter. Known in the underworld as a man trying to use the law against gangs, he ultimately chose to take revenge personally. 3 4
He approached Merlin's Custom Shop seeking weapons for his campaign. Unable to afford Merlin's full arsenal, Frank purchased an MK2 Sniper Rifle, ammunition, and three Explosive Rounds, then agreed to become a Player in Merlin's game platform to finance his war. 3
With Merlin supplying intelligence, weapons, transport, and hacking support, Frank eliminated the Motorcycle Gang and Mexican Irish gang leadership. After wiping out three gangs, he became publicly identified as the retired soldier responsible for the killings, while Hell's Kitchen experienced a period of calm due to his reputation for lethal retaliation. 14 15 19 23
Appearance
Frank is a burly, tough-looking, upright man whose clothing prominently displays his vigilante identity. 3
- Black T-shirt printed with a skull. 3
- Also wears a white skull-print shirt. 36
- Uses a skull-themed, wasteland-style motorcycle matching his Punisher persona. 36 60
Personality
Frank is driven by uncompromising vengeance and a complete lack of faith in the legal system. He regards extermination, rather than arrest or rehabilitation, as the proper response to criminals. 3 106
Despite his ruthlessness, he is pragmatic under pressure and loyal to his allies. He accepts personal danger to create an escape route for John and Duke, and he continues to protect Merlin during the Raccoon City instance even after becoming suspicious of Merlin's motives. 191 238 239
“I only deal in extermination. I don't believe in the law.” 106
