Background / History
Dugu Bo develops his poison expertise without an inherited cultivation tradition. Chen Luo identifies him as the strongest poison user on the continent and attributes his limitations to the lack of predecessors whose experience could guide him. His self-directed research brings him to Titled Douluo, but also leaves him suffering from the poison he commands 20.
The Jade Phosphorous Serpent poison also afflicts his granddaughter, Yan Yan. Before meeting Chen Luo, Dugu Bo considers reaching Level 95 beyond his likely lifetime potential. With little hope of advancement, he spends ten years repaying Prince Xue Xing’s past kindness by handling difficult and disreputable work for Xue Xing and Xue Beng 20 27 29.
Martial Soul City and Chen Luo’s Intervention
Despite being wanted by Martial Soul Hall, Dugu Bo visits Martial Soul City to witness its confrontation with Chen Xun. He openly hopes to see the Hall humiliated, but the battle between Chen Xun and Qian Daoliu exposes his own limitations: he believes he would not survive even one move against either combatant 13 16.
Afterward, Yue Guan and Ghost Douluo pursue him through a forest during a thunderstorm. His poison fails to stop them, his Soul Power dwindles, and Ghost Douluo’s ambush wounds his neck. Cornered, he prepares to fight to the death 19.
Chen Luo intervenes and incapacitates both pursuers. Presenting himself as the Lord of the God Realm, he offers Dugu Bo preliminary qualification and access to cultivation traditions from other worlds. The possibility of curing himself and his granddaughter persuades Dugu Bo to accept. He receives the Myriad Laws Mirror and joins the God Realm Preliminary Group 20 22.
Immortal Herbs and Rapid Advancement
Dugu Bo uploads photographs of his garden at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, asking the group to identify unfamiliar plants. Chen Luo reveals that the garden contains immortal herbs capable of rebuilding a Soul Master’s foundation and improving their potential 25 26.
To repay their assistance, Dugu Bo offers herbs to Chen Luo and gifts the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum to Chen Xun. He then learns that the Myriad Worlds Mall accepts sales as well as purchases. Selling only part of his collection earns him 10 million Contribution Points 26 27 28.
He spends this wealth on poison techniques, pills, and magic treasures, reaching Level 95 within days. By the time he ends his arrangement with Xue Xing and Xue Beng, the poison afflicting both him and his granddaughter has been removed. He declares that his next service will be his last and makes cultivation his priority 28 29.
Xiao Wu’s Capture and Death
During Shrek Academy’s proposed merger with Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Dugu Bo recognizes Xiao Wu as a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. Rather than expose her inside the academy and risk the royal family claiming her, he waits until the Shrek party leaves, then intercepts them outside 32.
The students and teachers refuse to surrender Xiao Wu. Their appeals to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Star Luo royalty, and Tang Hao fail to deter him. Dugu Bo threatens retaliation through mass poisoning and abducts Xiao Wu under his Titled Douluo pressure 33 34.
The Spirit Ring Stripper makes her Soul Ring useful to him despite his already possessing nine rings. He purchases the artifact, kills Xiao Wu, and absorbs her ring and Soul Bone 37 39.
Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong arrive to negotiate, only to discover that Xiao Wu is already dead. Dugu Bo defeats the three through poison, inherited abilities, and the Mysterious Sky Gourd. He ultimately relinquishes her remains, recognizing that he is not yet a match for Chen Xin’s grandfather, Chen Xun 38 39 40.
Star Dou Great Forest Mission
When the forum offers rewards for killing two forest overlords and an ancient exotic beast, Dugu Bo sells the rest of his medicinal resources. By the time he finishes, the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well has been emptied—even its pool water has been sold 42 63.
At the Lake of Life, he defeats Tang Hao and reveals his Level 99 cultivation. The Sky Azure Bull Python and Titan Giant Ape recognize Xiao Wu’s aura in his Soul Ring and attempt to avenge her through self-detonation. Dugu Bo prevents this by draining their Soul Power and life essence with his upgraded Mysterious Sky Gourd, then replaces his first two rings with theirs 69 70.
Competition over the resulting Soul Bones is interrupted by the Li Huo Qilin. Dugu Bo and the other group members reveal their identities and cooperate against it. His first attempts with the gourd and Bone Corroding Poison fail, but he later applies God Slayer poison to a wound opened by his allies. His poison contributes to the beast’s defeat alongside Xue Yunlan’s formation attack 71 72 73 74.
After receiving the Poison God Bead from Chen Luo, Dugu Bo returns to independent cultivation. He remains active in the group, distributing a 100,000-Contribution-Point red envelope, but is in seclusion when Li Xunzou later hopes to meet him 76 77 82 106.
Appearance
- Clothing: Usually wears green or jade-green robes; his dark-green robes become torn during the forest pursuit 19 32 71.
- Face: Has gaunt cheeks and aged eyes, repeatedly described through cold, snake-like expressions 19 38 74.
- Beard: Has a grizzled beard, which he strokes while discussing his preference for independent cultivation 77.
Personality
Dugu Bo is ruthless toward opponents but conscientious about repaying kindness. He serves Xue Xing for ten years out of gratitude, offers immortal herbs to those who help him, and freely gifts one to Chen Xun. His generosity also appears in the Contribution Point red envelopes he sends to the group 26 29 82.
His confidence grows sharply with his cultivation. He dismisses factional threats, taunts established Douluo, and boasts about his victories. Nevertheless, he can assess his own limits: he initially acknowledges his poor prospects, later avoids pushing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect beyond recovery because of Chen Xun, and asks fellow group members not to let mission competition destroy their camaraderie 20 33 38 40 42.
He values freedom over political involvement. Once further advancement becomes possible, he abandons routine work for the princes and explicitly rejects faction membership as troublesome compared with life as a rogue cultivator 29 77.
Abilities & Skills
Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor’s Poison
His original poison is highly lethal across a broad area, making him dangerous even when his direct combat strength trails other Titled Douluo 19 21.
- Kills Soul Masters below Titled Douluo on contact 21.
- Spreads through mist and rapidly withers surrounding vegetation 19.
- Supports his threat that he could poison a city or destroy a sect’s successors despite being unable to defeat its strongest members 33.
- Initially has difficulty harming Titled Douluo; Yue Guan disperses and purifies it with the Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum 19 38.
- Causes debilitating backlash before his access to otherworldly cultivation methods resolves the problem 20 29.
Myriad Poisons Heart Sutra
An otherworldly poison cultivation technique that makes his poison effective against far stronger targets 38.
- First Form — Bone Corroding Poison: Penetrates Gu Rong’s Bone Dragon protection and attacks his marrow, causing severe pain and impairing his ability to stand 38.
- God Slayer poison: Applied directly to the Li Huo Qilin’s exposed wound during the coordinated battle 74.
- Limit: The Qilin’s superheated breath evaporates his initial Bone Corroding Poison mist 73.
Abilities Acquired from Xiao Wu
Absorbing Xiao Wu’s Soul Ring and Soul Bone grants him new defensive and close-combat options 39.
- Invincible Golden Body: A Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Bone skill that nullifies physical attacks for three seconds. Dugu Bo states that breaking it requires Level 100 godhood 39.
- Teleportation: Instantly relocates before Gu Rong can complete his defense 39.
- Explosive Kill Eight-Stage Fall: Uses successive kicks and teleportation to batter Gu Rong through the air before smashing him into the ground 39.
Enhanced Perception and Physical Combat
- Identity detection: His restored and strengthened mental power allows him to recognize Xiao Wu’s Soul Beast identity 32.
- Strength: Repels Gu Rong with one punch; later sends Tang Hao flying with a finger flick and catches the Clear Sky Hammer with one hand 38 69.
- Speed: Moves so quickly that Level 95 Gu Rong and Level 96 Chen Xin nearly fail to track his approach 37.
- Jade Phosphor Bewildering Array: Retains this third Soul Skill because he considers its unexpected tactical value worth preserving despite its low-age ring 39.
